epson printer

I upgraded to Mac OS v10.7 Lion last week and now my printer does not work with any applications. I can print a test page via Systems Preferences but no applications will work. All I seem to get is an error in the print queue with reference to the following:

/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS/

Can anybody help please.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Lanny/Quicksilver,

Apologies for not providing the full details. The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Interestingly I have an Espon GT-1500 Scanner and that is working fine after the upgrade last week.

I did reset the Print Manager and added the printer and scanner but the same outcome. The printer will print a test page through the Print Manager but anything from Word or Adobe Acrobat causes errors in Print Manager. It says it is sending data to the printer but then fails and provides an error.

After moving from Windows, I really was hoping that I would not have to spend this amount of time on very frustrating issues.

Guys I really appreciate your time.

Thanks and regards,

Martin

This is because you are trying to print from the former printer. Try to see if there are multiple versions of your printer in the preferences. a screen shot will verify what you are seeing.

if you are printing successfully from this setting then when you're in word or acrobat you might want to see if there are mutliple versions of your printer that you can select. If there is, try selecting the other one. I know this is silly but have you restarted your computer since last you installed the latest drivers from the epson website (if after you installed lion and there was no update from software update, in the  menu).

After you run the Software Update, make sure that you select, "Add Other Printer or Scanner..." instead of selecting the printer listed in the "Nearby Printers" list below.

My Epson Stylus Photo 1270 is fully supported in Lion, so it's hard to believe yours is not.

Don't download drivers from the Epson web site. All the latest Epson drivers for Lion should be able from using Apple's Software update.

My problem with printing is similar to what others here have seen but it's proving intractable.

I'm running OS X 10.7.3 on a MacBook Air (13 inch, mid-2011 version, has had 10.7 from the very beginning). My Epson Stylus Photo 1410 is connected to my network via a TP-Link TL-PS110U USB print server.

Until several weeks ago printing was working; now any print job terminates with the error

/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS/ rastertoescpll failed

My wife's dual boot Windows 7/Linux Mint 12 system can print from both Windows and Linux.

And if I plug the printer into a USB port on the Thunderbolt monitor and share it, I can print on it with no problem, and so can she. (There are too many occasions when I need the MacBook away from the desk and she needs to print - otherwise I wouldn't be bothering with the print server.)

The printer on the print server is installed as lpd://192.168.0.10/lp1 as per TP-Link's documentation.

I've deleted and reinstalled the printer many times. I've powered the print server off and on, same with the printer.

I've tried various permutations of lpd, ipp, default queue, lp1, the Epson SP 1410 Series driver, the generic printer driver, with no success.

I've tried different USB cables, different Ethernet cables, different jacks on my network switch.

I've returned the print server (although it had worked well for two years), got a new one and have exactly the same results.

I've deleted the EPSON folders in the Library as recommended in this thread, downloaded a fresh copy of the Epson drivers from Apple (painful process - a gig is a lot of data here), reinstalled the drivers, reinstalled the printer.

I'm coming to the conclusion that there is some fundamental incompatibility of some recent revision of OS X and the USB print server.

Any suggestions? Thanks everyone for your time.

I am having the same problem, I'm new to mac (I recently purchased a iMac) and followed the set up instructions. My epson 1410 doesn't even come up in the add printers. I have downloaded the drivers from Apple, and nothing! I emailed epson and they told me its not compatible with Lion...is this true, will I need to purchase another printer???

Sirsy, I'm puzzled that Epson says the 1410 is not compatible with Lion.

My 1410 was working very well when plugged directly into my Apple equipment (USB port on the Thunderbolt monitor). Trying to get it working again with my USB print server, I reset my printing system multiple times and reinstalled the Epson driver (see my previous message). So I thought I'd better check it again. I've just reattached the 1410 directly to the monitor, and it's printing perfectly. It showed up in the Printers & Scanners section of System Preferences with the correct driver without my having to do anything at all.

Which specific version of Lion are you using? Click the Apple logo at the far left hand end of the menu bar, then About This Mac.

Can you post Epson's message here?

Thank you for contacting Epson Support.

At this stage there is no specific OSX 10.7 driver available for you Epson product. Epson Australia would recommend, if available, trying the OSX 10.6.X driver available for download from the Epson Australia web site. Please note that as your Epson model was never designed for the Lion operating system we can not guaranty that it will work correctly and have all options available.

If you require further assistance regarding this issue please only respond to this E-mail by the Reply Button in your E-mail application.

Strange. I asume that after downloading the drivers from Apple, you got them installed as well? Sorry if that's an insult - just covering all possibilities here. If you still have the file EpsonPrinterDrivers2.9.dmg, then perhaps delete the folders /Library/Caches/Epson and /Library/Printers/EPSON, unplug the printer, reinstall the drivers from the .dmg file and plug in the printer again.

Is there any possibility that the particular USB cable you're using to connect the 1410 to your iMac is faulty? Or even one of the USB ports or connectors on the iMac?

Have you still got the PC with which the 1410 was working? If so, have you tried reconnecting the 1410 to that PC and allowing it to be shared with other computers on the network (assuming you've got a network - but if you've still got two machines, you could even connect them with a crossover cable).

I'm surprised at Epson's message. The 1410 is not your average punter's printer; you'd have to have some interest in graphics to own one. A lot of people who are interested in graphics will run Macs. And Lion's certainly not brand new. So why should Epson be dragging the chain?

Mar 1, 2012 3:43 AM in response to kiwigander

Yep, not insulted thats a fair question... but I have some IT background (way way in the background) but its all on PC. Mostly I have found the change to Mac quite simple and easy, but this is a little frustrating...

I looked in the Libraby/caches/epson - no epson. I deleted the epson folder from the printers and unplugged and reinstalled, still nothing - and I have tried different ports and USB cable still nothing!

When I installed the driver again there was still nothing in the caches folder about epson, does that mean its not installing properly? I looked in the support printers folder and the 1410 is there, so theoretically it should be working right?!?!?!

And don't even get me started on epson...why indeed, cause then I have to spend another $400 to get a new printer that takes the same consumables.

Mar 1, 2012 1:03 PM in response to Sirsy

Theoretically yes.

OK, you've physically disconnected the 1410, re-run the .dmg of the Epson drivers, gone through the driver installation process, reconnected the printer, still nothing.

What happens when you now go to System Preferences > Print & Scan > make sure the wee padlock icon in the lower left corner is in the unlocked position > click + to add a printer > click on Default?

(Again probably insulting your intelligence especially if you've got some remote IT experience, but note the italics; I myself have trouble interpreting these wee icons.)

Lucky thing I've come a cropper with my USB print server, or else I'd have been suggesting that you solve all your problems with one of those! OTOH, have you got access to an obsolete but working laptop or PC box that you could press into temporary service as a print server until this is sorted?

How far are you from a "Genius Bar"? (not that I've ever had to deal with one - so please be gentle with the flames)
