epson printer

I upgraded to Mac OS v10.7 Lion last week and now my printer does not work with any applications. I can print a test page via Systems Preferences but no applications will work. All I seem to get is an error in the print queue with reference to the following:

/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS/

Can anybody help please.

Thanks,

Martin

kiwigander,

It would have been much easier and better if you had started a separate thread for your issue rather than reopening a 4 month old thread.

As to your problem with the print server. I believe you will find that the drivers written by Epson and supplied through Apple are not meant to work with print servers. They are meant for a direct USB connection only.

I would suggest that you try the Gutenprint drivers for use with your print server. These drivers can be used with a print server. You can download the latest version (5.2.8-pre1) from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

I looked in the Libraby/caches/epson - no epson. I deleted the epson folder from the printers and unplugged and reinstalled, still nothing - and I have tried different ports and USB cable still nothing!

The /Library/caches directory is not used by Epson in the Lion and the latest version of their drivers. In fact having an Epson folder there can cause problems.

Have you tried resetting the printing system? See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341. That can often resolve mysterious issues.

If that does not work, make sure that the computer at least recognizes that your printer is attached. Open System Information (Applications/Utilities). In the left hand column, highlight the USB section. Is your printer shown as a connected device? An alternative method is to call the USB backend (the communications portion of the printing system) without argument. Use the Terminal (Applicaitons/Utilites) and enter:

/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb

followed by the Return or Enter key. This will list all the USB printers detected.

Thanks for you help Matt, I still haven't got it working. I called the backend, and the fuji showed up, but not the epson.

That certainly does make it easier to track down the problem. You know you have a good USB path from the fuji to the printing system. Just take the USB cord from the back of the fuji and plug it into the Epson (OK probably easier said than done given the size of the printers). Are you able to call the backend and see the Epson now? If not, you have a USB port problem on the Epson. You can mix and match cables and ports to narrow in on the problem.
