Apple TV goes into rolling reset when connected to network

I just factory reset my 1st gen apple tv. it was on the latest software version, however, factory reset caused it to revert to software ver 1.0. I figured no big deal, will just update from the internet, however, it would constantly continue to reset (1 sec interval). I was able figure out that the issue is when I connect to the netowrk (either wire or wireless), otherwise it seems stable. Does anyone know what the issue is or how I can update to latest version without the network, i.e. via USB port?

Thanks!

Woohoo!! fixed it !! yay!

my steps below (I really hope this helps)

1. plug apple tv to macbook.

2. setup internet connection sharing from wifi to ethernet.

3. factory reset apple tv and also turn off the wireless router

4. let apple tv come up. it will show you the 5 digit code to sync to itunes. ignore it and wait about 3-5 minutes (this will let the auto update feature expire)

5. turn on your wireless router and make sure your macbook connects to it.

6. wait a few minutes and go to software on your apple tv.

7. cross your fingers/toes and press.

8. for me, it told me that there is an update available to download (i did, about 5 minutes)

9. updated the apple tv. disconnected the ethernet from macbook, turned off the internet sharing and am good to go.

Wish you the best.

Thanks

Hasen
