iTunes 10.5.1 password irritation

Upgraded iTunes 10.5.1, now when I open iTunes I have to enter my password twice. Why, and how to get around this???

Bono, aindriu, it did not work for me 😟

I accidentally opened iTunes first (normally) then closed it down, then reopened it as administrator, then entered my password in (was only prompted once this time), then when I closed itunes and restarted iTunes, I got prompted again twice for my password.

Do you think it is because I opened iTunes normally the first time. I know this is the mac forum, but I too am on win 7 64bit

"Run as administrator" - Worked for me. (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, iTunes 10.5.3.3)

The only funny thing is the first time I restarted iTunes in normal mode, it welcomed me and made me acknowledge the EULA again.

Thanks bono.hu. Yes, it was only an minor annoyance, but seemed to get more annoying each time. 🙂

It must have something to do with iTunes being unable to store the username/password when it is not in administrator mode. This does not help the Mac users though?

hi all!

try this: start iTunes by right-click, and "Run as administrator", then enter your password when it asks, close iTunes, start it again (normally, as usual, this time), and voilá!

i had the same problem on my new notebook (Win7, 64 bit), but this method eliminated the problem today morning.

please let me now, if it worked for you, too! ;-)

I've tried the "Run as Administrator" option and no dice. I even did a COMPLETE uninstall and re-install, then tried the "Run as" again. Still nothing. In fact now I have to cancel the login pop-up 3 times! Yet my wifes and son's itunes does not do this. I can't figure out why even after a complete uninstall, it re-installs exactly the same way. That leads me to believe it is an entry in the registry that is causing it...

I just updated to 10.5.3 a couple days ago and that's when I started getting this glitch. So far everything suggested here has not worked for me. I even tried reinstalling the update. My next attempt to fix the problem is to use a little reverse psychology and have "check for automatic downloads" checked off in the preferences.

My glitch is particularly annoying as iTunes will ask for my password a good 5+ times in a row. Does anyone notice the decimals in the songs/days/GB text at the bottom showing up as question marks when the glitch is asking for your password? That's what I see...

powerbook1701, Starting this thread was a plea for someone to help me solve having to enter my password multiple times whenever iTunes was accessed. It's an irritation and annoyance, nothing more. But it shouldn't be necessary to have to re-enter the password.

So, I'm thinking that this problem for us is not very high on the priority list of things Apple feels needs attending to.

As far as changing the title of the thread, I'm not sure how to change it. Or what wording would make it easier for someone searching for help with the same problem to find it.
