Tell you right now, Apple employees are not educated on this. I called many times and each time I had to educate that on what this recall was! one time I told them " everytime I call in I have to explain my self, any way to get to someone who knows?" they replied " the recall has ended 5 months ago" (this was back in last november) I know it was BS so I called back and was able to get helped, after I told then what the recall was!

Opened my repair ticket last Friday, May 2nd. Received the empty box May 5th, shipped it back May 5th and this evening I got an email stating that the replacement has shipped. I looked up the serial number that was referenced in the email and it looks like I'll be getting a 7th gen nano. Would have been happy either way (6th or 7th gen) since it's my youngest son who'll be using the device. No complaints here.

I've just received more 6th Gen Nanos. They were sent to the usual place using the usual methods. But they are being returned in UPS bags. Not in the usual brown boxes.

Here's a theory.

It's been stated in the past that the recall has been more popular than first thought. It could be that the supply of 6th Gen Nano's had run out for a short period of time, so Apple started sending out 7th Gen's to meet the recall demand until more 6th Gen Nano's could be produced.

But that doesn't explain the inconsistency of 6th Gen/7th Gen replacements that I'm seeing against people like 59er9er.

Maybe I'm just on a "special" 6th Gen list. I wouldn’t be surprised!

EB, maybe you are on some special 6th gen list. It certainly seems strange that you'd receive 6th gen nanos after so many people have been receiving 7th gen devices. Mine is on a FedEx truck this morning but I am expecting that it will arrive in a brown box like most everyone else has received their 6th or 7th gen devices in.

It's entirely possible that they've identified you as someone who is gathering large quantities of 1st gen devices for replacement then turning around and selling the replacement devices. Certainly nothing wrong with that but it does seem like they're sending a message by sending you these 6th gen units in UPS bags. 😉 Oh well, can't complain about Apple's continued commitment to get these potentially dangerous 1st gen units out of the public's hands and replacing them with newer units.

It's very possible. Just means that I'll have to create a new account for my returns 👿. That should get me off the 6th Gen blacklist!

I had four 6th Gens returned to me recently which are still showing as "being processed for return" on the repair status page. So who knows. They seem to be very inconsistent at the moment.

I was a little unsure of this program at first because I still used my nano all the time and I had never had any problems plus I really liked my old 1st gen nano. I didnt like the thought of my house burning down so I sent my request Wednesday 4/30/14. Got the box the next day 5/1/14 and returned it with my black 1st gen nano(4gb) that same day. I just got my new silver 7th gen nano (16gb) today 5/8/14 along with an adapter. Fast process. SO HAPPY!!! Thanks Apple!!! 🙂
