I can't send an sms/text from iphone 4S (iOS5.01)

I can't seem to send sms text messages to a specific VALID contact from my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.01). I get a "message send failure" indication.

I have inserted the full area code, and try everything listed from Apple Knowledge Base support.apple.com/kb/HT1337

I have also tried restoring my iPhone 4S, attempting to send an SMS from a fresh phone without restoring my back up and nothing seem to work?

Its definetly not an issue with my carrier, as I tried inserting my sim card onto my old iPhone 4 (iOS 5.01), and I am able to send the SMS.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? Is anyone having the same issue?

Please help. Thanks.

Go to settings, messages, make sure imessage is on. Once you have done that check that at the receive at icon it has your mobile number. If not go back into settings then phone and in the my number field type in your mobile number starting with + and your country code. Don't type the first 0. That worked for me. Good luck, seems to be a common problem that different people resolve in different ways.

Okay. I bought a new iphone 4S yesterday and the texts wouldnt work.

I did this and it seems to have solved it:

Go to Settings

Go to Phone

go to the top 'My Number' box -- [mine was just a row of 0s]

type in your mobile/cell number [area code not needed in my case]

retry texts.

That worked for me

I noticed yesterday when I backed up from my mac that the phone number was blank on there too, so it may be the phone number needs typing in within the iTunes setup next time

cheers

On my iphone 4s 32gb black (iOS5.01), the inability to sent taxt was not caused by a carrier network. The software bug at the "subject" box area was the problem. When I sent text message with the subject title, the messaged was not sent. Without subject title, it was sent. One inconvience is that I cannot have subject with my message at all. Try it if this will work on your phone(s).

Apple, fix the bug at the "subject" box.

Hi,

Apparently the reason you cant send texts is because your Service Centre number is wrong.

Go to your phone number pad and type

*#5005*7672# and press the call button

a number should come up on your screen, make a note of the number then

Go to your phone number pad and type

**5005*7672*the number you have been given# and press the call button

Now try sending your text again.

Also have a proble sending texts, all was OK up until a week or so ago.

Receive texts fine. When I send or reply the sendinding bar comes up then I get an exclamation mark beside the message. Entered the codes **5005*7672* < The number I got from the previous input ># . Then I see the following in the display.

Setting Succeeded

Service Centre Address

No Address

What does this mean?

This was our version of the poblem:

We recently bought two 4S iphones, one for my wife and one for me. To get us started, I loaded the same contacts list to both phones (from my Mac). My phone worked perfectly. But my wife found that, whilst she could send and receive SMS message to the majority of contacts, in some cases she could receive but not send SMS messages. When she tried to send or reply to one of these contacts, she got the red exclamation symbol others have mentioned.

The solution:

I noticed that my wife's phone settings>phone> "My Number" was showing 0s.

I couldn't amend the number.

So I:

1. Switched off Facetime and iMessages (in Settings).

2. This allowed me to amend "My Number" to the correct mobile number (with country code).

3. Switched-on Facetime and iMessages.

Problem fixed.

I don't know what's going on, but assume some networks won't process in-bound SMS if an originator tel no isn't present. My guess as to why it works could be complete rubbish, but at least it worked for us.

Good luck!
