I can't send an sms/text from iphone 4S (iOS5.01)

I can't seem to send sms text messages to a specific VALID contact from my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.01). I get a "message send failure" indication.

I have inserted the full area code, and try everything listed from Apple Knowledge Base support.apple.com/kb/HT1337

I have also tried restoring my iPhone 4S, attempting to send an SMS from a fresh phone without restoring my back up and nothing seem to work?

Its definetly not an issue with my carrier, as I tried inserting my sim card onto my old iPhone 4 (iOS 5.01), and I am able to send the SMS.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? Is anyone having the same issue?

Please help. Thanks.

I have a similar problem, but none of the suggestions above are working. I'm living abroad (using a sim card from abroad) and trying to send text messages (to an android user, who never had an iphone/imessage). My iphone seems to remove the country code before sending the text, which means the messages don't go through. I have tried deleting the contact and typing the number in manually, turning off the imessage option in settings, turning off dial assist - nothing works. Any ideas?

I have the same problem too. Residing at US but i came from different country. But i can use my phone to send a message and receive messages through my roaming number. (it cause more from my country to send to US) Now i am using iphone6 with t-mobile carrier - (samsung s4 before with t-mobile network). when i was using samsung i can send as many as i can no charges. It is because i can edit the phone number (my country 12 digits no space) but on iphone it auto-corrected for spacing your numbers.

This was such a simple solution and worked perfectly. Up until then I had blundered around checking settings, wifi link and more. I am not daft but am over 70. Like everyone my age we did not grow up with these devices, although we use them. For people like me it is not 'obvious' what to do. I think, if only there were some basic instructions when one first got an iPhone, telling people simple stuff like that (I.e where to type for an SMS message) , a lot of frustration could be avoided.
