I can't send an sms/text from iphone 4S (iOS5.01)

I can't seem to send sms text messages to a specific VALID contact from my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.01). I get a "message send failure" indication.

I have inserted the full area code, and try everything listed from Apple Knowledge Base support.apple.com/kb/HT1337

I have also tried restoring my iPhone 4S, attempting to send an SMS from a fresh phone without restoring my back up and nothing seem to work?

Its definetly not an issue with my carrier, as I tried inserting my sim card onto my old iPhone 4 (iOS 5.01), and I am able to send the SMS.

Does anyone know what could be causing it? Is anyone having the same issue?

Please help. Thanks.

This is exactly what was happening here!

ATT removed SMSes! No warnings! :-)

1. I switched phones. Activated new 5s

2. I was sending SMSes FROM it, and trying to send SMS TO it (from another anoter phone): no errors were reported! They don't arrive in any directions! Panic!

3. I was able to send "SMS" to another iPhone, until I realized that was not SMS, but iMessage

4. I used little adapter: nano -> micro SIM, and put iPhone nano SIM into another phone (Samsung phone), which was prior to this, sending and receiving SMSes. Once I switched SIMs, Samsung phone STOPPED sending/receiving SMS messages!

Ok: so it was NOT iPhone, it's SIM/AT&T! I called them and suggested this (that's not a iPhone issue, but SIM card issue or service issue). She checked: and yes, "home" (inside USA) SMS were disabled!! ***?!

Because there is no SMS plan as I used to have before this new phone activation (1500 messages a month), so ATT simply removed it form my account. No warnings.

When I logged into my account on ATT, I saw that I have 200 text messages, so I didn't pay attention too much (those were International messages on account, not domestic - domestic got removed).

AT&T asked me if I want "unlimited" since that's the only thing they now offer... What can I do?! I had to take that.

Now: SMSes are working form my new iPhone in both directions.

Hello folks sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have a similar problem .

iPhone 5 latest iOS 7.0.3 16gb

Previous firmwares iOS 5 and 6

Carrier T-Mobile UK

Number ported over from O2 UK

I can SMS , call , MMS , email or anything else on the phone as normal to any carrier within the UK as you would expect . Here is the problem . I got a friends number back in December last year who is on the O2 UK network . I cannot SMS TO or call TO this number but this number can ONLY SMS me .We cannot call each other . All other numbers on all other carriers are fine even numbers on the same carrier as this errant / rogue number . My friend has no problem calling or SMSing anyone else just me .

It has done this on all firmwares even upto current .

I have reinstalled firmware with no joy (from a completely blank phone . Full wipe and fresh firmware download) with no backup reinstallation.

I have done the Service centre reset .

I have tried with Wi-Fi and blutooth on and off in various combinations .

I have checked my country location settings.

I have checked "my number" is correct both with and without the international code .

I have checked the recipients number with international code and without .

I have tried with iMessage on and off .

I have tried with international calling on and off .

I have deleted all contacts and tried just the friends contact as the only one in the phone .

I reinput the details of the contact from scratch.

I have NOT swapped out the sim as yet as all other contacts and services to and from them are fine just this ONE number .

T-Mobile UK are clueless .

Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated .

Thanks in advance

I'm getting so annoyed, for a month now I have been unable to send or receive sms, I travel frequently between Thailand and Australia and have seperate sims for each country..I have spent 2 days real time, like 1 or 2 hours a day at least trying to figure this out and have lost a heap of business as a result, have followed some of the instructions here, still can't seem to get imessage activated, have phoned my carrier, tried their suggestions, tried suggestions on this thread here, still no luck, ready to go Samsung at the moment, why TF is it so difficult to swap music and photos from one mac to another iphone etc..I do love my 2 macbook pros and our 2 iphones but it's all getting a bit too hard for someone who is not a computer expert....HHEEELLPPPPPPP!!!!!

I can't send an sms/text from iphone 4S (iOS5.01)
