Itunes 10.5.1 Completly not working in Win7 (64bit)

This has been a total disaster update for me. I am running Win7 (64bit) with all my windows updates current. I went ahead and updated Itunes to 10.5.1.

That was a severe mistake. Itunes crashes every time I start the program. I notice that genius is running right at the start up and I manage to shut it off but it still crashes.

So far I have done the following:

Started Itunes in safe mode----Crashes

Done a complete clean install and reinstall---Crashes

Downgraded to 10.5 clean install---Crashes

Upgraded back up to 10.5.1 started back in safe mode--Crashes.

I have stopped my anti-virus during all installs and starts and it still crashes.

My system is clean of viruses.

No error messages are provided for all the crashes other than "This program has stopped working"

My frustration is awful. I really hope they get this fixed or someone can offer a solution. I am so sorry I ran that upgrade.

I am having the same issues. Windows 7-64 bit, perfect machine until 10.5.1.42, tried all of the suggestions in this thread (and others), to no avail. Crashes my entire system when it gets to the first track of the music sync process, tethered or via Wifi. I have several classmates with the same problems. What a horrible, horrible update.

guys I found the answer after about an hour missioning through your posts nd suffering from the same symptoms. My Itunes seemed to crash each time it opened within seconds.

I eventually looked at the status bar quickly to see what it was doing when it crashed, it said something along the lines of trying to create stopless playback of certain tracks that were ewly added to the library after installing. So i saw the track's name that it was freezing on each time was "Happy Birthday" for example, so I searched for it on windows and found it was a wma(Windows media file) which was crashing itunes.

So in short, make sure you aren't dragging your music foldr to itunes library with any WMA files or they will crash itunes immidiately as it trys to repeatedly add them to it's library. As soon as i deleted the file it completed the gathering of info for pauseless playback and is running perfectly...

Hope this helps

Guys, just found the solution. I also run Windows 7 64-bit and I also tried everything and couldn't even start iTunes in Safe Mode. I finally tried removing the 3rd party plugins as suggested by someone else under http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430 Found that it was the Mozilla plugin under the folder "C:\Program Files\iTunes\Plug-ins\Mozilla Plugins" and subsequently just cut and paste the "Mozilla Plugins" folder on my Desktop. I then ran the iTunes as Administrator (right-click on iTunes icon and click on "Run as Administrator") and it worked. I then closed it down and started iTunes again in the normal way and again it worked. Whoohoo! Finally!
