siri can't take any requests right now

11/19/2011: Siri continues to say, "I'm really sorry, but I can't take any requests right now." She's been saying that since early last evening. Also, voice dictation is not working on my note pad, where it had before.

Does anybody know what's wrong?

I have turned off Siri, disabled it, rebooted, then enabled Siri several times getting the same results - not working.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I have tried everything. I got my phone 4 days ago. Siri worked perfectly for the first day. Then she went out for 1/2 day and came back after just letting it sit for awhile. Then she went out again the next day and has been out since. Every response I get from her is the "I am really sorry about this. I cannot take any requests at this time. Please try again later." It's later. And she's still not working. I'm ready to return this phone ASAP.

My fiance got the same phone as well and he is experiencing 0 issues. Is this a software issue or a phone issue?

Any other ideas of what's wrong?

Hi hoylemc,

after having tried everything else to no avail, this has worked for me: restore the iPhone from with iTunes - it should automatically download iOS 5.0.1 and start installing. Disconnect the phone after successfull restore. Set up as new device. When you see the home screen, plug cable back in and restore from backup within iTunes.

- that should do the trick!

Cheers,

Sebastian

Siri stopped working for me today and I've turned everything off and on again to no avail. If you restore, do you lose everything? I haven't backed up recently, if I back up now will I be backing up Siri not working too? I have a call in to apple support for tomorrow. I will let you know what they tell me. Any other advice?

OK - so this started happening to me a few hours ago and the only thing i have done differently today than any other day is airplay music from my iPhone to my Apple TV all day long. Wifi is solid and no one in my Apple Family seems to be having the problems. Even though this is "Beta" how can it selectively choose when not to work?

I have tried all of the following to no avail whatsoever:

- Turned Siri OFF then ON again

- Turned her OFF and restarted, then turned her ON again

- Restored form latest backup (which was done AFTER Siri started acting up)

- Restored to factory settings and then Restored from backup

- Restored to factory settings, unplugged iPhone from iTunes, Set Up New, and then Restored from backup

After all of this, I then did a hard restart (pushing power + home) and still.... nada... ANY MORE IDEAS?

And of course I am about 3 days past my 30 day mark for purchase... ugh.. am I totally S.O.L?

I have had the opportunity to put two iPhone 4S phones side by side to test Siri out on many occasions, and I found that while my phone works less than half the time, the other 4S phones work almost all the time. This is true even when I have a solid Internet/data connection on my phone. In other words, I can surf the web, check e-mail, and perform other Internet-related functions just fine, but Siri still will not work. It might be a Siri network outage, but I believe this also has something to do with my contact list and other personalized information stored on the Siri network. Siri uploads your contacts so they can be voice-recognized. Turning off Siri for a few minutes may temporarily fix the problem because when you turn Siri off for a while, it removes your personal data from Siri servers. I believe the Siri network not only stores your contacts, but also the way you pronounce them, including certain accents. Once you turn back Siri on, Siri will re-upload your data, though it may take a while. Before it finishes uploading the data and personalized pronunciation information, Siri should work very well.

Like most of you, SIRI worked perfectly for the first three or four days I had the 4S. Then for no reason, in the same environment in which it had worked before (Apple Airport Extreme g/n) full wireless network signal, full Verizon reception it started asking me to try again later, "Sorry I can't do that right now, try later"- Then I spent a long time last night troubleshooting - turning SIRI off, waiting, turining SIRI back on, but no luck. Turned SIRI off, the phone off, then on, then SIRI on, again no luck. Restored the phone to the backup when the phone worked normally, still no luck. Restored the phone to a new phone, nada. So I scheduled an appointment with the Genie bar. This morning I asked SIRI what time is it, still no way. So I was getting ready to go to the Apple Store, and figured I would give it a last ditch effort and............it works normally again. It had not worked an hour before that and I did nothing to the phone, just sat there while I was getting ready to go to the Apple store.

I would like to know if anyone with AT&T or Sprint phones is having the same problem or is it only Verizon?

Just tried it once again before finishing this post and still working just fine.
