siri can't take any requests right now

11/19/2011: Siri continues to say, "I'm really sorry, but I can't take any requests right now." She's been saying that since early last evening. Also, voice dictation is not working on my note pad, where it had before.

Does anybody know what's wrong?

I just bought my 64gb 4S yesterday and Siri hasn't worked at all in the 24 hours I've had the phone. I am on Verizon. I've done a soft reset, a software reset (via iTunes), and I have reset the network settings and nothing has worked. I have tried it on wifi and on the cellular network. When I called Apple tech support, they basically said "tough ****. It's in Beta testing". Not really sure about you guys, but that seriously ****** me off. Like someone else had said, using a feature that is in testing as the main selling point is underhanded, and to be perfectly frank, complete ********.

I've also had issues regarding reception; it drops signal unexpectedly, then jumps to "extended" or "roaming" or just goes to "no service" after having full signal. I am planning on heading to the Apple Store in the next couple days and swapping the phone unless it starts working properly. The signal issue seems to be happening less and less frequently, but in all honesty, it shouldn't be happening at all.

I tried to edit my above solution, resetting network connections.... turns out that one doesn't work either. It worked for a few commands and then back to same ol paperweight new phone. I can't believe Apple would do this. All of you who are saying this is a beta product, and telling folks to calm down need a reality check. Apple advertized Siri as one of, if not THE biggest feature to the 4s over the 4, and it is a catastrophic failure. Calling it beta, in tiny print doesn't justify the horrific problems users have experienced. I hope apple can come up with a patch or resolution within the next 25 days before my window to return this pos passes by. If they can't fix it, I'll be happy to return this and go back to my 3gs. I got a 4s because of my battery getting worse on my 3gs, 4s is a failure there, it lasts a bit less than my 3gs did... and siri, which is non functional more than it is functional.

Just got off the phone with Apple Care. The tech asked me to reset Networks settings...Settings/General at the bottom of General press Reset, then press Reset Network Settings. That did not work. Then he asked me to reboot the phone (press the on off switch on the top right until you can turn the phone off), then turn it back on and now it works. I imagine will end up doing this a few times.

When I probed, it appears that between the traffic load on the servers and ongoing maintenance and upgrades they underestimated the load on their servers. I also realized that this is a Beta version and if I take the longer term view, it is so neat that I can't wait for them to issue the final relase so it will have all of the bugs worked out. I will pretend that I have my old 4 and be happy when SIRI works. They just rushed a good product to market too quickly.

I still think that Apple products are great.
