Apple TV losing home sharing connection.

Apple Tv has worked fine for 11 months since purchase. After recent software updates it refuses to maintain a connection to itunes via wifi. Home sharing lasts no more than a few minutes before closing. Have to continually restart itunes or home sharing to restore the connection. Youtube etc working fine still, only itunes content a problem.

Is this a general issue or is this specific to me? Any advice would be appreciated.

mjtimko: See my post above - you are almost certainly correct about "it's not the router" but it's not just 4.4.3 as people have had the problem since iTunes 10.2.1 and TV 4.2.

And I agree it needs action by Apple but they need to know about it, and this is not the place. I posted the links above, but if your TV is relatively new, you can really get their attention my sending it back.

It has been awhile since anyone has posted on this issue. can anyone tell me if it has been resolved? I just purchase an apptv2 yesterday and i am having this exact problem. The only way I have been able to resolve the issue is to power my router on and off. It will then connect, but you are never sure for how long the connection will last.

I experienced the same problem. Home sharing would seemingly switch itself off after just a few minutes and a re-start of itunes would resolve the problem - but only for another few minutes. For me, the issue was created by adding a Slingbox to my network. Removing the Slingbox has resolved the issue. I am not sure if everyone here is running a Slingbox (seems terribly unlikely), but consider removing devices from your network and see if that helps. What I can be sure of, is that for me, the issue was not caused by either my router, switch, the Apple TV or iTunes. Everything worked fine before I added the Slingbox and works fine again now I've removed it.

The Slingbox had port forwarding set up on port 5001 on my router. This was removed, but still made no difference. Only removing the device itself worked.

I just purchased an TV 3 and imediately experienced the same issue using a WiFi connection - regular pause and buffering type behavior and occassionally it would disappear from the network entirely. Thus far, it always corrected itself by reconnecting without my intervention. However, I believed any (except rare) occurance of interuption in streamed content is unacceptable. Assuming the my TV, iPhone and router are all OK, I then began to consider what results in wireless interuptions. Investigating the settings on my router, I found that the WiFi channel selection was set to auto. Speculating that a channel change could result in what sounds like a pause while adjusting to the change, I set the channel to a specific one. I've been streaming for about 3 hours with only one pause - that could be an interuption in the source, Pandora. So far, so good.
