Shutter Sound?

At completely random moments my MacBook Pro 5,1 makes the shutter sound like a screenshot. My password_one software makes the exact same noise. I am not engaging either the Mac for a screenshot or the password software. There is no regularity to the sound: not when waking up, or opening lid or closing it, etc. Odd and worrisome. I have searched many times for an answer but have never found one, thus my query to you all. Any ideas on how to determine why the sound happens? THX so much.

Is it a shutter sound, or the keychain lock/unlock sound?

There was a problem where an out-of-date version of 1password would cause the keychain to lock and unlock with great regularity.

I too have this odd sound and thought it might be my hard drive. Mine is a refurbished macbook pro mac. I noticed that my old 7200rpm drive has a random tick or maybe reader arm sound. I recently got a new hybrid sshd and it too is making this strange sound but not as loud as the other drive and I'm really puzzled with the sound. The difference is on my old drive it has Mac os 10.6.8 and my new drive is running 10.9.5. I also recently changed an old macbook 2010 hdd and added the same Toshiba sshd but haven't noticed it making any sounds out of the ordinary.

As for the sound it's really quite and doesn't seem to be coming from an audio sound but from somewhere inside. I do access the old drive from time to time and it's in an external enclosure and I do hear the odd click sound and it's allot louder.

I would love to know if a solution to this problem has been found. I have a Mid-2010, 21.5" iMac desktop that has recently (in the past 3 weeks?) starting making this same sound - that of an electronic camera shutter or screenshot. My desktop is running on OS X Version 10.10.5.

As I do not use 1Password, LastPass, or Espionage, nor the 'keychain,' I doubt any of those are suspect. I have only noticed this random sound when I am online, which is most concerning. Does anyone have any knowledge with regard to a virus, or malware, that may possibly provide someone with remote access? This, obviously, is my biggest concern – the thought that someone, somewhere, may be taking screenshots or photos of my system or of me (but why?). Unless this random sound effect disappears, I will likely be checking this post again, hoping to find of a solution.

Thank you to any knowledgeable and patient person who is willing to guide me through the process of eliminating this problem.
