Is it possible to rename photo in the "camera roll" OR reset the photo number in iphone 4s? (Clearly explained the situation)

Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. This is my first discussion starting in here and nice to meet you all. I used Android device before and this is my first apple mobile that I owned. I am using iphone 4s. (5.0.1)

I have search a lot but no answer that how can I rename the photo in the camera roll in iphone or in Windows 7.

What I want to do is:

I have IMG_0006, IMG_0007, IMG_0015, IMG_0016, IMG_0017, total 5 files.

I want to change the name that make their sequence will become IMG_0001, IMG_0002, IMG_0003, IMG_0004, IMG_0005 and I want the following picture will take place in IMG_0006. (This is just what I want but it never happened)

but seems that I can't rename them and I have tried that if I take 2 pictures after IMG_0017, but I delete them (which is delete IMG_0018 and IMG_0019), then take another new picture again, it will name as IMG_0020 instead of IMG_0018.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Questions:

1. Are there any methods to reset the photo number by deleting file under the "PhotoData" that we can see in iPhone Explorer?

OR

2. Are there any methods to rename the photo in the "camera roll" folder?

I have tried to rename the photo directly in iPhone Explorer but it will make the photo cannot be read in iphone.

3. Is it possible that I can rename them directly and rebuild the camera roll by deleting the Photos.sqlite under the PhotoData folder to solve the unreadable problem in iphone 4?

Thanks a lot to read all of the words above🙂

My problem is similar, but not the same...I need to be able to set Camera Roll to start at a number of my choosing...or be at least intelligent enough to remember the last number used and start with the next one, even over a "set up as new"...

Does i-Funbox seem to have the ability to tell Camera Roll with what number to start?

Thanks!

So I installed i-Funbox and found the file you referenced.

It has a section here, that I believe is the one that I need to edit:

<key>DCIMLastFileNumber</key>

<integer>5</integer>

I expect that if I change that 5 to 552, the next picture will then be named IMG_0553.JPG.

But how did you edit it and save it to the phone? iOS is based on Unix or Linux, right, so even after having access to the file, I expect that I'd have to save it the with the right permissions and as the correct owner etc.

Can you tell me what I'll need in order to do that?

Thanks!

UPDATE: Rather than wait for an answer, I just tried stuff inside the i-Funbox program, specifically, its "Copy From PC" command, selecting to copy in the edited DCIM_Apple.plist file, hoping that the program would take care of any permissions, etc. On the first try, it seemed to copy just fine, but, for whatever reason, the copied file was empty when I opened it for verification. But I tried again, and that seemed to work (opened for verification, and it was as expected).

I then unplugged it, copied a file from the Photo Stream, then plugged it into my laptop to verify the filename. It was exactly as I wanted: IMG_0533.JPG. Then, for fuller verification, I unplugged it, took a new picture, then replugged it in, and confirmed that the next pictures (I had HDR on) were IMG_0534.JPG and IMG_0535.JPG.

...and that's where I am. Nothing has crashed yet, too, which is all to the good ('course, it's been like mayyybe 10 minutes since I did the "Copy From PC".)

Fingers crossed!
