Same here. Seems to have started with 5.0.1 for me. That seem true for you?

Considering the fact that there are several iPad users with different iPad configurations having the same problem, yet all running iOS 5, it is obvious it is not a hardware issue but an issue with the new iOS release. The least Apple could do is offer a solution. And QA... Hahaha... Not always "quality" buddy! No need to defend Apple... They have lawyers to do that.

I also have this problem since updating my ipad (which I had to do because Facetime stopped working on previous version...) and now cannot stand using it. Extremely frustrating when I cannot use it for more than 2 minutes without the app shutting down. I wonder why I spent all of this money on a tool that only worked for 3 months!!!!!!!!!! I want to tell everyone I know to save their $$ and get a mobile device that works.

P.S If apps are shutting down, this is a crash. If the device is shutting down, this *may be* hardware or deeper than the things advocated in this article, and should be in its own thread. I doubt that's what you mean.

I just want to echo what most of the folks here are stating. I'm having similar problems with my Ipad1 in that it crashes

constantly. I'm always resetting it but the problem persists. I also agree that Apple should acknowledge this problem,

address it, and resolve it already for all of us who are loyal buyers and users of Apple products. Once we move on we're not coming back!

The Ipad1 has low memory issues. Go to Settings\General\About\Diagnostics & Usage\Diagnostic & Usage Data & you can ck to see what is happening. The only way to get some (or even full) performance back, is to slim down iOS 5's footprint on your Ipad. Go turn off a lot of your Notifications. Set it to manually and you can pick and choose which ones you really need. Also, turn off the Location Services. It also can be done by selecting which ones you need. Turn off indexing: "Spotlight" keeps a growing index of all your files and objects, such as contacts, apps, music and mail. Obviously, keeping such an index in RAM puts a burden on your machine. If you rarely use the search feature anyway, you may want to turn off indexing altogether or at least turn off indexing for items you rarely use. You'll find the indexing settings under "Settings\General\Spotlight & Search.Multitasking Gestures: Some users reported that performance issues were somehow resolved by turning off the "Multitasking Gestures" on their iPad. You can do that under "Settings\General\Multitasking Gestures".
Disable iCloud: Apple's iCloud puts a heavy burden on your device and turning it off seemed to help almost all users with performance issues. If you can live without it, I suggest you try disabling it temporarily and see if it helps you. Hit "Delete Account" under the "Settings\iCloud" page.
iMessage: Another seemingly RAM-heavy service that keeps slowing things down. If you never use iMessage, simply turn it off under "Settings\Messages

Hello Sam,

I have this problem now for several days. My OS is uptodate. My apps are updated. I resetted my Ipad and reinstalled ALL my apps. Nothing worked. I called support. They didn't know what I am on about. What I do know is that I will go further with this. We buy Ipads for all our employees and as of Tuesday this is finished. If this is the way Apple treats their customers then the slide down will be fast and bumpy!!

Well, here I am again...on another thread I did everything that was recommended, down to just adding an app or two at a time. I had about 6 apps on my ipad, music and email set up. That's it. It took about 4 weeks and it started crashing again. I have to restore the ipad completely at least every month to two months to even use it. If I can't have any apps on it, what is the purpose of owning an ipad??? So I restored last night, again, and put two apps on it - Nook and Ebay. No music. No email. I'll post an update once it starts crashing again, but right now I'm looking at Android tabs. Just thought I'd mention that I have the first gen ipad and this has been happening even before the 5 update. Probably started right after the 90 day warranty ran out, but go figure...

Now there is no support and I would have to mail it off to someone in the hopes that they can figure out what's wrong with it. Fat chance since no one else knows and Apple won't even acknowledge the problem...

If anyone has figured out how to correct this, please post what you did to make it work.
