Same here. Seems to have started with 5.0.1 for me. That seem true for you?

No, refurbished devices come with the same year warranty as new. They are elgible for Applecare. There are third party apple service providers. You do not need to go to an apple store. There are three in my town alone.

Also, for $30, apple will talk to you on the phone an unlimited number of times until your issue is resolved. If it is not resolved, they don't charge you.

Alternatively, you may wish to turn icloud off, and make some other optimizations. Let me know if you are interested in that.

Okay, you got me :) I found one about a half hour away, so I guess that is my next step. I've done all the optimizations, turned practically everything off and have downloaded practically nothing, so I'll wait my 3 weeks for it to start acting up again and take it in. As for the warranty, i'm not sure where to find that information, but I was pretty sure I remember it being 90 days...I could be wrong on this though. Thanks for your help and I'll post back when (if) I can get this fixed.

For what I read we all have the same trouble: our Ipad keeps, suddenly, shutting down, and everyone expects that someone among us to have the right answer. The producer of the hw and owner/ developer of the sw isn't Apple? aren't we all registered? Why doesn't Apple answer the question? At least they can say: we don't know neither!!!!

I've got a slight variation on this theme, and am posting because I'm headed to the A-Store this afternoon, so anyone with a similar issue, I'll have some info later on... My "new" iPad (aka, the 3, but evermore just the "iPad") has the rather annoying habit of respringing (on rare occasion it will full-out reboot) just by going from portrait to landscape. The app is irrelevant - no apparent rhyme nor reason.. And of course I can't "make" it happen, so hopefully I get a sympathetic genius today, however the way things usually go I'll be at the mercy of a Sheldon Cooper... The other little oddity, and I know this is extensively recorded, is the wi-fi anomaly with 802.11n and 5Ghz signals.. My dual band Belkin router at home is not the culprit, as there are a few devices on both bands functioning without issue, and I've duplicated the problem on other networks.. I suppose it's possibly a hardware defect with the device, although it took a few months to appear... Stay iTuned ! I'll Update this later on...

Hi Sam, It seems everyone is having issues since updated verizon of IOS 5.1 for Ipad. I have serveral apple products and was contemplating buying an Ipad 3 but now I am frustrated and angry, without this issue being resolved I am going to start a Facebook campaign about Apple and it's issues. Let's see what Apple will do with these unhappy customers then? I DO NOT JAIL BREAK EITHER & EVERYTHING IS BY THE APPLE BOOK HERE! sincerely, J. Robertson

Have you called or taken it in to find out what apple thinks of the problem?

Do you have an ipad 1 or ipad 2? I'm running ios 5.01 on my ipad and do not have any issues. That doesn't mean you are not.

Which apps are closing?

Do you have icloud backup turned on or off? which services are you using for icloud? are you using a mac or a pc? what operating system? are you running an up to date version of itunes?

The best way to upgrade/restore an operating system is with USB, transferring purchases, syncing, backing up (if not using icloud), and then updating all of your apps, and only after that installing the update.

If your ipad is spontaneously rebooting, I have had a few of those. It is generally considered a hardware problem, and suggests your ipad needs servicing, but it is not a general problem with the ipad software. It isn't happening enough for me to take it in at the moment, but I eventually will.
