hey guys, I'm from India, this is my first post here, I have just recently got an old iPhone 3gs 32 gb (black) from a friend since he upgraded to the iPhone 4s, anyway for the first week or so I used the phone like an iPod touch, sure there was a battery life problem and I did not blame it cause the phone is more than a year an a half old, so just day before I put my normal (not micro, not new) GSM SIM card from my old phone ..... this was at about 9:30 PM local Indian time.... and the following day, i.e., yesterday at about 12:00 NOON local Indian time the phone began rebooting itself.... it was freaking me out....my first instinct was that i should give it for repair, which I was gonna give anyway cause the body and the buttons of the phone were either broken or non existent or were about to fall off any second..... so anyway I did give it in ,.... and am supposed to get to know today evening, whether they were able to find the problem that caused the reboot issue.....
anyway between the time the phone started misbehaving and the time I gave it for servicing.... I had removed the SIM card from the phone and it was working just fine as an iPod touch.... so I came to a conclusion that the problem only occurs when the SIM is inside....maybe you should try taking the SIM out you will see that it works just fine....
I then read the posts here ... after reading saad's post I was relieved till i scrolled further and found out that it dint work .... so I Googled a little more and on another thread some1 mentioned a "dirty contacts list"..... so researched it, because when I began using it as a phone I copied the contacts from my old SIM card, and I came across this link about dirty/damaged SIM cards......
here it is: http://techtips.salon.com/problems-sim-cards-iphones-4466.html
maybe this could solve our problem, and after reading the post I took a look at my SIM, which I had removed from the iPhone and put back in the old phone, till i got the iPhone back, I saw that the SIM card is damaged really badly and has lots of scratches on it ......so when I get the phone back I'm going try it out with a new card, and see if the issue persists or does not exists, meanwhile you guys could also check the link and see your SIM cards and research further on the topic if you want to.......
I also searched further, "dirty contacts" could also refer to the battery contacts being dirty, literally, so I'm going to get that checked to....
thanx guys for reading
