Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

iTunes Artwork Chang Arrow has gone?

I have back, front and CD covers for the majority of my iTunes playlists. WHY WHY WHY Apple has somebody decide to get rid of the arrow in the iTunes artwork window to change the artwork? WHY WHY WHY has somebody also decided that you can no longer highlight all the album tracks and drag multiple pieces of artwork onto the artwork window?

Like several aspects of Lion these are backward steps. Please show some respect to the massive amount of work that many of us have done on iTunes and leave things alone!

Arrows Gone allowing view of multiple artwork for track. CONFIRMED.

I upgraded from iTunes 10.4x to 10.6.1, and ouch!, arrows gone, confirmed.

I regularly embed back cover, alternate cover, CD scan on many of my albums.

Arrows definitely GONE!

The art is still there, intact, just no arrow.

I never used/activated iTunes Match (I only do ALAC, loathe lossy formats), so iTunes Match is not suspect?

Just submitted this comment to apple. (I'd like to emphasize that complaining about it here will do no good... you need to let apple know you're unhappy by submitting a comment via the link at the bottom of this page.)

Let's get our arrow back.

Here's the comment I submitted:

As evidenced in this one (of several) discussions, the decision to remove the arrow to view multiple artwork images in iTunes is a very unpopular one.

We have spent years investing time and money in your computers and your software while migrating their music collection to the digital world and by removing this arrow you have significantly diminished the experience for a lot of people.

Front AND back covers, as well as liner notes are not only a must for some folks, but people have spent years compiling these images for their collection and with one severely misguided decision this work is erased... gone... kaput.

Also, I am an art director and my wife is a prominent music photographer. Album packaging is a significant part of what puts food on our table and a roof over our heads. While we appreciate the convenience of digital music, it's very nature has diminished the value (and quality) of music artwork. By removing this arrow, it's another slap in the face to the beautiful legacy of album artwork.

What the f*** are you all thinking? Please bring the arrow back.

(BTW, I am running iTunes 10.6.3, and your drop down menu below only offers 10.5 as the latest option to select.)

Apparently this degradation is because of iTunes Match.

Via Match, you always get the song's rendition from the Store library - which includes the artwork from the Store library. So this 'simplification' made it a lot easier for Apple to implement Match in a consistent manner, by applying a unified handling of track artwork.

Yet, I don't find this OK at all. 😟

I wonder whether Steve Jobs used multiple artwork images in his own iTunes library...

Anyway: You can do better, Apple!

I have been complaining about the loss of the scroll arrows to view multiple art for some time and have been

waiting in vain for over a year for apple to fix this and restore the scrolling arrows. Someone should create an app

to fix this. I have spent thousands of hours adding front, back,cd booklets, liner notes, etc to my itunes music

library-- the artwork is still there in thumbnail size, pretty useless if you can't expand the images like before.

I do have all the same images in a separate folder outside of itunes--I didn't throw all my eggs in apples basket!

But the idea of using itunes was that in one place I could have a giant database/jukebox--right now my itunes

library is over 240,000 tracks, roughly 24 thousand albums with multiple artwork embedded in most of these tracks.

That was an immense effort that itunes totally nullified by removing access to the scroll arrows. I don't care about

itunes match.I just want to be able to access all the images the way i could do before itunes eliminated the

feature. I seriously doubt that the new itunes 11 will fix this.I can't tell from the previews on itunes 11 how it

will handle multiple artwork. It looks like no more carousel view either.

What continues to irritate me is that apple is totally silent on this problem,if it's not a problem for them, then how can I expect them to fix something they don't acknowledge is broken.

If anyone has a solution feel feel to contact me Thanks,David Cantrell 11-23-12

It's not a "problem" from Apple's POV. They made a decision to change the behavior of the software and it works as it is supposed to. You and I might miss the earlier feature but it's not coming back. The best way I can think of for you to enjoy all the extra information you collected would be to make your own custom Digital Booklets, PDF files containing as many hi-res images and as much text as you want. Of course that will be further effort but it is one way to go...

I fear that you are correct and thank you for your storage suggestion which is certainly helpful but not the absolute solution to a very annoying problem.

Apple over the last couple of years have made some changes which clearly are not for the better. Mission Control replaced Expose and Spaces and this highly contentious change was only rectified by a brilliant third party app by the name of Total Spaces. Hopefully another third party will launch an app so that all stored artwork can easily be viewed in iTunes.

"Hopefully another third party will launch an app so that all stored artwork can easily be viewed in iTunes."

Yes! Thank you DaveSpencer. That is the solution. That is why I made my post,

so that maybe someone with this skill set will see the problem and create such an app!

If I knew how-- I would write the app.

I have all the images in a separate folder outside of iTunes as I stated above,

so I'm still able to access my info but that is not the same as having all the info, text and

music at my disposal in itunes.

As for the scroll arrows not coming back you are probably correct.

Thanks for both your responses.Appreciate it!

I've developed a quick workaround, and am still hoping Apple will develop a way.

Go To Get Info on the tune you want to see secondary artwork for.

Go To the Artwork tab

Drag the back cover to the desktop, and it will create a new jpg you can open with quick viw or prieview where you can see it large!

you end up with a lot of jpgs on the desktop to discard!

A good idea, but not as good as manual or automatic cycling.

And the ability to add more than one artwork to a set of songs is still missing.

I hope Apple cares enough about their products to have someone scanning these discussions.

Perhaps they are uncomfortable with having the same art duplicated in all the songs of an album.
But it is less likely to get lost when embedded in the songs, rather than just sitting in the album folder.

And it's small compared to the audio.
