icloud mail down (AGAIN)

seems to be a pretty steady pattern here. icloud mail is down (again). Can't access it at all now, and througout the day its been spotty at best.

Apple, what do you say about fixing this once and for all?

iCloud: Mail & Notes - Users Affected: Some

11/28/2011 11:07 PSTUsers may be unable to access iCloud mail. Normal service will be restored ASAP.

I guess the same guys Steve "moved" out of the MobileMe division worked their way back "down" to iCloud. LOL @ "some."

To comment on another post, mail stopped pushing to my iPod as well after iOS 5. I'm selling my iPod and have sinced moved to an Android phone. However, not because I don't like the iPhone, but because I will never be held hostage by a contract or pay high usage fees. $35/month Virgin Mobile, unlimited data and more than enough minutes for me. If I could get that deal with the iPhone, I would.

I mentioned it on the other thread, but maybe it's worth repeating here. After 30 plus years of email service (and actually owning and operating mail servers), having a backup is the best thing you can do. Putting all of your email eggs into a single basket is a recipe for disaster. There isn't an ISP/mail service provider in existence, Apple, Google, big or small that doesn't have outages, planned and unplanned.

For a few dollars a year you can own your own domain name and have your own mail account(s). We have three different providers just for this reason (iCloud, Gmail and one we pay for). If you don't and this was your first wakeup call, it's certainly worth looking into now.

Okay, gotta write some more emails!

😉

Been there, done that. Aside from setting up several accounts and having to keep track of email here, there, on this device, etc. Also, some email clients (Apple Mail) don't work that well with IMAP and show a bunch of folders you don't want or need, for instance if you have email through GoDaddy. Sparrow email app does let you choose which IMAP folders you want to see. Gmail is a mess with all their labels. I have all kinds of messages getting put here, there. Gmail has very poor email filters. Then you can also set filters from your mail provider or host (GoDaddy). Going through all that is almost not even worth receiving email.

I like iCloud when working, as I can route all my email to one address, and use my Apple Mail filteres to sort my stuff. When it works, it's like a dream. I don't often reply to email on my Android device, but I can get all my mail with just one account. If I need to, I can still reply, although it just puts everything in the inbox, and I have to manually sort when I get home. But I can live with that as long as the service has at least 99% uptime.

MobileMe wouldn't be offline for a week straight, but it would be off and on during that entire week. Folks, email is probably the most simple thing a company like Apple can do. And if they can't do that right, it doesn't give me hope about their future cloud aspirations.

Understood, although I'm confused about folders and IMAP. In my experience over the years Apple Mail works perfectly with all IMAP services on all of their devices. I can add and delete all of the folders I want in Apple's Mail programs as well. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I still use a "main" email account, I just have the others for backup in case something like this happens. Pretty simple really.

I'd agree with everything else but will hold my judgement about this outage. As I said, having run mail servers things like these happen (to every provider) and many times it's completely out of their hands...trunk lines go down and all sorts of other outside issues can impact services. If it is their failing, then yes, it's certainly not a good thing and I too have come to expect a lot more of them.

I figured out that all my me.com-mails disappeared on my iPad yesterday evening after I synchronised it with iTunes. Today I checked my inbox in iCloud and it was empty, too!

I have only a few emails left on my Mac, but only those who where stored in local folders.

I can receive mails send to my me.com-adress and for now one email send to me 10 minutes ago stayed in the inbox until now.

And like williamfromtopanga there is nothing showing in deleted files.

All the email in my inbox disappeared on my iPhone at 5pm today pst. Got home and it appeared on my iPad until it synced- they disappeared from the inbox on the iPod too. My Mac is the same story. Nothing in deleted file showing from today. Everything is on iCloud right now so I assume that's the issue. Will those emails reappear?

Has anybody anything heard from Apple?

I checked the iCloud system status which should work fine (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/).

But my emails are still gone...
