Ah, you're right, no socket just a flying cable, get an ATI 5970 display card.

The flying cable is an inconvenient way of doing it seeing as Female MDP connectors are very rare.

This mini displayport to hdmi works well and its not expensive.

The only devices that I know that fit that criteria are the Atlona products:

you can't plug anything into the cinema display except usb. He needs something where you can plug the minidisplay cable from the display into something that converts it into an hdmi or dvi

I also need a Female Mini DVI to HDMI male adaptor/lead to connect my Apple Cinema display to the HDMI ouput on my Sony laptop.

As I am looking to use my ps3 with an apple cinema display I just ordered three (⚠) components from http://www.dx.com:

1. a mini display port female to display port male adapter
2. a female to female display port adapter

3. a displayport to hdmi adapter

The sum of all three comes to around 20 us$ including shipping

I wonder if the usb from the cinema display will give sound as I connect it to the ps3.
If not I will use a usb sound device directly from the ps3. 😀

Same question. I need a female mini displayport to HDMI to connect a older LED cinema display to a PC. Haven't been able to find anything on line - everything is male mini display port, not female. Any suggestions?

Hey, did this work for you? I've read reports that the female to female mini displayport couplers don't work.
