Why can't I download Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard?

I would also like to have XCode 4.2 for Snow Leopard. I have a MBP, there I sadly needed to "upgrade" to Lion, so I could load the regular XCode 4.3.2 from the App Store.

But at least at my iMac I need to keep Snow Leopard, but would love to have XCode 4.2 on it, so I can work on projects with ARC, etc. also on my iMac. The problem is: I do not want to regisiter as Mac Developer for the Mac App Store, only for iOS. But then it is impossible to download XCode 4.2 for SL.

I don't spend 99$ just to be able to have a new version XCode on my iMac, to create better Apps.

Of course the final Build will be done on MBP with latest XCode, but for experementing, testing, debugging, etc. XCode 4.2 should be enough, at least far better then 3.x.

Maybe someone knows an alternative Download? It would really help working on Apps!

Xcode 4.3 is not availible for Snow Leopard. I have Lion on my MacBook. Before I installed Lion, It said that it needed Lion to install. I am not a dev, so I don't know the whole developer program. I advise upgrading to Lion and installing Xcode. That's what I did.

Why you don't update your IMac to OS X Lion? No,no,no, wait. Waiting for the summer, than there comes a new software update: OS X Mountain Lion. Watch the Apple site for more information. It's the best Software ever.

THERE is the solution: "Note that being an iOS Developer is a different license." I am an iOS developer, so I thought that I would get access to the tools I need. Thank you so much Gerry for sharing this little secret with us. So we can either pay $99 to be a registered Mac Developer or pay $29 and lots of time to upgrade to Lion.

I have just taken all the time I have to get this answer, so I am just going to give up and continue to use Xcode 3

Apple want to force people to there new (very bad) OSX 10.7 - and I'm not willing to "upgrade", because I still want to be in charge of my computer!

So, either Apple will make the download of OSX 4.0.2 / 4.2 for Snow Leopard FREE, or it will end up on a external download server.

Its not that hard, just let normal developers (without the $99 "extra") download the .dmg.

Some of us poor schlubs don't even have a choice. I'm on an old 1st Gen MBP, and I can't upgrade to Lion.

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro that runs perfectly fine, and I'd rather not upgrade to Lion as it made my 2010 iMac run noticeably slower. But I want to be able to make apps on my notebook as well as my Imac.

I have paid $99 for a developer's license, and have searched the Developer area and tried links posted in this very thread. At this point in time it appears that Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard is now not available from Apple at all.

So, thankfully, I was able to get a copy of Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard from a friend.

I really do wish Apple wasn't behaving like this.

I'm trying to find xcode 4.2 for snow lepoard too, and I have a ios developer account, and still it says I don't have access rights. Apple is ******* me off (with many other things they are doing)

I found xcode 4.2 for snow leopard on a bay! 😉

That is the issue. I too had to pony up the second $100 to be a Mac OS developer to get it.

From the Xcode 4.2 Release Notes:

"You can install Xcode 4.2 for Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard only if you have purchased an earlier release of Xcode."

According to several other posts, you can also join the Developer program for $99. Those are your choices (from Apple) at this time.

I do now see xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard is now available for me also, at this link:

Either it wasn't available because the system hadn't updated to my paid membership yet, or I was looking for it in the wrong place.

So, to sum up, I was incorrect. : ) As of this writing Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard is available to paid members via Apple.
