Why can't I download Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard?
Hi there,
I login to Apple Developer and click Download Xcode 4.2 (Snow Leopard) but I'm just presented with an Access Denied page... Do you know why this happens?
Best Regards,
Jens

Howdy,
OK, after reading all the information in this thread, taking the plunge for the $99 membership and downloading Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard, it fails to install on my intel Core Duo Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. It starts to install but then it fails with the "An unknown installation error occured" message.
Now what?
Adios,
Cactus Dan
Hmm... I can't seem to find it in the list now. Was it there this morning (Aug 9)?
And, yes, I'm a paid member.
Apple changed the formate of there OS in Mac OS X Lion. That is one OS above yours. They also changed the compare of Xcode to be compatible with Lion.
Sorry meant to say formate instead of compare
I'm running 4.2 (build 4C199 for reference) on 10.6.8 - so there's no version incompatibility, if that helps.
My set up is Mac Mini, but I doubt the hardware is relevant.
Maybe you've solved the problem by now - otherwise I guess it's a matter of slogging through trying to isolate any oddities in your setup.
I don't know if there are lists anywhere of possible software interactions/incompatibilities between the Mac tools and other software, but that's propbably where I'd start. But you know that!
If it's any consolation, you are not alone in finding Apple's complete backwards compatibility crapness a pain. Android tools put Apple's to shame. So there's a thought. Android!
Thank you so much for this link!!! worked like a charm!!

Hi, i buyed xcode 4 from app store, then cant find the 4.2 update for snow leopard even as registered developer, email veryfied and so; the link to the download (https://developer.apple.com/downloads/download.action?path=Developer_Tools/xcode _4.2_for_snow_leopard/xcode_4.2_for_snow_leopard.dmg)
return the same error message (page denied blablabla).
Can anyone help me, please?
Paolinide posted the actual download link, if you are a registered developer just click above. For some reason it seems that Apple has removed the link from their website, which is very frustrating as it took me a couple days to find this.
For those getting the error, make sure 4.1 is installed then install the 4.2 update.
Also, needed to update itunes to 10.7 and updated the installer and XCode 4 is now installing without the error.
Do you happen to know if updating xCode without updating OSX gives you the classes for producing JSON data containers from CoreData, or do you have to update to OSX Lion/Mountain Lion as the 'availability' on apple JSON class pages says?
It's Xcode, not xCode.
The class you're looking for is NSJSONSerialization; it's actually part of the Foundation Kit, and has nothing to do with Core Data. It was released with 10.7 and is available on the SDK for iOS 5. It is not available to developers working on earlier dev tool releases.
You do have alternatives like JSONKit and SBJSON, however. In my experience, either work great. I much prefer the latter's API, but the former's performance is amazing.

Is it legal to download this from elsewhere, such as a torrent?
It's not legal and not wise.
Get it from Apple.
Any smart guy to md5sum the apple original file and report us?
Filesize would help too.. This topic still an issue guys, lets solve it.
