My iphone 3GS keeps restarting itself after I upgraded to iOS 5.01?

God, please help. It was fine when I was using iOS 5, but it started restarting itself every 2 minutes after a few weeks of iOS 5.01. I restored it as a new iphone and started from the scratch a few days ago, but this morning when I turned on my phone after switching it off for the night, it started doing the every-2-minute-must-restart thing. Help me before I smash the phone into pieces~

My wifes phone also rebooted. I tried the fix and it worked for a short while. If I rebooted the phone it still worked but if I turned the phone off for more than 10 minutes it would start reboting again.

I updated the phone via its self not with a PC unlike you use to have to do.

The latest updaye 5.1 was released so I ran the update via itunes on the pc instead this time. this is now in the second week and my wife turns the phone off each night and its AOK.

try doing the update via the pc/mac, works for me

Hi,

I have similar symptom on my iPhone 3GS before but I was suggested by another user to turn on the 3G function, then off your phone and restart your phone. After restart, Off the 3G function and the rebooting thingy was gone. Not sure why after reseting the 3G function returns the phone to normal though. Been a while now and no reboot ever since. I've upgraded to iOS6 and it work pretty good for me. I upgrading using WiFi. Not connecting with cable via iTune.

Hope this help.

This worked for me. It was rebooting every five minutes or so. It's been up for about 45 minutes now. I reset the sim card while it was on and once it reconnected, life was good again. well as good as it can be tethered to all these electronic devices.

I did do a reset of setting from the menu, but that didn't help.

Another bit of possibly relevant info, I was sitting in the back of my apartment which has less than optimal reception and the phone was between my wireless telephone (which I was using) and my laptop which was using wifi. So cell net reception could very well be an issue.

Thanks saadalsakran.

So sorry for the extremely late reply!! I've tried that, it turned out okay but whenever I turn off my phone and turn it on again, the problem is there again. So I've found a simpler solution, it's basically the same as yours minus the taking out the Sim card whenever it happens. Just turn on the cellular data & 3G, and turn it off again and voila! Thanks a lot, anyway. <3

My wifes has started to do the same, the iphone 3Gs was mine, I updated it to ios 5.0.1 while still using it and it was fine. I did a backup restore of her old 3G phone and again it was find for awhile.

We noticed she doesnt have any data part of her package so we have switched off the data, since then we have this issue.

I had to install a new docking part of the phone as her mic was faulty, I did the sim out, switch on 3G and data and then sim back in. Switched the phone off and then back on. all good.

I stripped the phone down adn replaced the part. again all good. That I night my wife said Shall she turn the phone off in which I replied it should be fine. When she turned the phone on in the morning, the reboot problem was back.

I'm wondering if the problem is to do with the Data on and off. I've also noticed that when the phone is up beofre it reboots, you can pop out the sim and the signal stays the same.

When it does have a problem, she now does a quick reset from the phone which takes about 5 minutes and shes back up and running. its big pain!

Think I will get her on a data package and then try again

Hello, my brother had this same problem of the iPhone 3gs restarting cuz of the ios5. I tired enabling the 3G n dat but it only lasted for a few days them start rebooting itself again.... Try this method not sure how long it will last for but. Good so far.

General/reset.....Erase all data and settings.

On the iphone......Set up as a brand new iPhone.

Then log in with your apple i.d on your phone.

Once done, restore it from the pc and then sync ur backup with your apple I.d(if u hav 1) if u don't have back up saved it don't matter.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

Because i know how frustrating it's been

Its gotten a billion times worst! Its totally unusable! After a minuet or two of just using the phone it restarts and doesn't start up properly so have to manually turn it off and turn it back.. takes around 7 or 8 try's before I get it to fully boot! 😠

..... going to the Apple Store tomorrow. Will let you all know what happens!

btw my 3Gs is out of warranty.. should be interesting. 😝
