YOUTUBE CHOPPY PLAYBACK... HELP ANYONE?

Check YouTube's "How to" tutorials. Also, do a Google search. There are loads of solutions.

I have this exact same problem too and am on the same Mac, OS etc! Have you found anything? It's driving me insane!!

I had this a while back and I believe that it was only when the quality of the video was set to 480...pretty much any resolution apart from 480.

If you are using Google Chrome Browser

Google chrome has adobe flash installed and it is not the latest

you should disable adobe in google chrome and just keep adobe flash running on your mac, which has the latest version

version 11,1,102,64 is the latest.

I've noticed it's sometimes worse on 480 but it definitely does it on other (higher and lower) resolutions too....

I had the same problem on my MacBook Pro. Its only 3 months old and all videos, not just You Tube run jerky.

In desperation I downloaded Google Chrome. Don't ask my why but all videos run smoothly in Safari and on Chrome. I'm wondering whether Chrome carries a 'patch' that fixes the problem? Let me know if it works for you.

Wait, so you can get youtube to work on Google Chrome? I am so, so beyond frustrated. My computer is only 3 months old too. 8gb ram. It shouldn't have any problems. I'm banging my head!!!! I've been using Safari since I got my new computer. Youtube plays, pauses, plays, pauses, plays, pauses, ad nauseum.

More to do with the Flash plugin which is required for most YouTube content than a RAM issue.

Try this ...

Quit Safari.

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All

Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS

Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

Now try a video.

BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.

And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

Thank you!! I do not know how to uninstall the flash player app. 32 bit mode is not selected. I emptied cache and deleted storage in flash player. Videos still doing same thing.

try downloading Chrome and see if that works. If you don't like it you can always uninstall it.

I was able to d/l the uninstaller and then redownload flash. I think I did everything. Videos still chopping. Play, pause..

Safari. I have Chrome. I actually use it for certain websites that won't open in other browsers. Weird.
