ibooks ver1.5 pdf file name changed

After updating to version 1.5 (700) of iBooks on my iPad (ver1, iOS version 5.01), almost all of my pdf file names in iBooks are changing once I open those items. Some of the files change to what appears to be a property of the PDF file such as "Microsoft Word - (orginal file name)print.doc(x)" and other just get blanked out all together. The files names in iTunes when I connect my iPad seem fine, but within iBooks on the iPad it is a mess. Any ideas? My understanding is that the way to manage files names for PDFs in iBooks is through iTunes, but right now they seem out of sync.

I have had my ipad for about a year now and found it to be a simple and flawless way to carry music charts with me...what normally would be 5 books the size of phonebooks i can carry in 1 hand...

I raved about my ipad and liked it enough to switch to iphone from my other smart phone.

However, with the new update, my files are a mess in ibooks...the files title changes to "notation" probably because i used notation software to create those files..ironically, it keeps them in the correct alphabatized location on the contents...so IT knows the title I assigned, but heaven forbid I be allowed to know it...this is my first true disappointment in my apple products and an example of why i held off making the switch for so long...Apple is wonderful when you do what THEY want you to do...but if you have a different use in mind...well you betyter hope they see the value in it soon, or it just won't be possible.

i followed some folks advice and went with goodreader...this looks like a great solution...not only is it way better than ibooks, it has annotation, so at rehearsals i can actually mark changes on the tunes!

Thanks Goodreader for providing such a great product...

It is an upgrade but it would have been unnecessary had Apple done there job on ibooks in the first place.

GoodReader is a very good App indeed, but....

Personally I have not found any application out there, including GoodReader, iAnnotate, Docs To Go and PDF Reader Pro that renders pdf files as fast as iBooks. The main reason for which i use iBooks is its rendering speed, which is due to its simplicity. Lately I've noticed it's becoming slower with the last 2 updates, but still faster than the rest.

I use huge pdf files and need to do quick page-turning, and all the abovementioned apps are not fast enough. To swipe a couple of pages with those apps you have to wait a couple of seconds to get the images on time. Yes, iBooks lacks tons of cool features and has a terrible Table Of Contents layer-wise, but it has the FASTEST rendering i have found so far.

Since the moment this name-changing bug started I have been using GoodReader because it's simply the best backup app I have, but I can't wait for iBooks to be fixed to get fast rendering back.

I too have had the .pdf problem. All of my .pdf's were sorted for specific classes by categories, and author, and now they are all crazy and the names changed upon opening.

I called Apple support to inform them of the problem, but have not heard anything back from them. I even emailed the support guy, and he didn't have much to say.

We need iBooks fixed ASAP!

For what it is worth I had heard about GoodReader from the many positive reviews that have been written about it and after waiting a week for the iBooks pdf name issue to be addressed I made the switch.

So far I am very pleased with both the comparable features it offers, but also with all the expanded capabilities it has. The ability to annotate pdfs and the rich options it has for syncing files to your device would be just two areas I would highlight.

I would have been happy to stay in the Apple "sandbox" if things hadn't been messed up so seriously. But after waiting for what I considered a reasonable time to get an acknowledgement of the issues and some sort of commitment to fix it, I made the switch. I doubt I will ever go back.
