voice to text is not working on my iphone 4s

Here's an explanation - it's offline while Apple brings Siri out of beta and introduces new functionality like app command, sports score search, "read me my email," and more!

(And then I woke up...)

Just got my 4s on Tues and both Siri and Voice-to-text were working fine until this afternoon. V2T is not working now, Siri is. But reading this thread, seems it's a server problem? I thought V2T just worked off the hardware on the device unlike Siri which is server reliant. I dont like the fact that all my V2T work can be recrodered on a server somewhere. Sounds like Carrier IQ stuff to me....DONT LIKE.

Ditto everyone's Siri's dictation problems for both my wife's and my 4s since this afternoon. Even Verizon is unaware of the nature of the problem. They thought that a reset would correct it - it doesn't! Hope AAPL gets it fixed soon. Was beginning to get real attached to voicing text messages and contact info!

Not a carrier problem or OS problem. I'm guessing it's server overload and to keep Siri from totally crashing, the text-to-speech in apps is disabled/shut off.

I thought I was going nuts!! I'm sorry that we are all having this problem. To Apple: FAIL!!!!!

Same here. Bought the phone last Friday. Went to Apple store b4 viewing this site, they restored, then replaced the phone. After another customer came in with the same issue, I suggested they ask the manager if there was a global issue. I was disappointed that they didn't appear to care. It's a cost issue to Apple to not send a "text" blast of the issue...to customers and store employees.

Interesting, when testing the new phone in the store it worked...by the time I made it home, it didn't.

So, I guess I'll give it a day...hoping the servers are restored!

messaging with the microphone was working on my iphone 4s until this afternoon. I see many others are having the same problem. I am concluding that this is not an end user induced problem rather a systemic Apple issue. How do we know anybody in Apple reads these things? How do we get Apple's attention? "Horton hears a WHO"

Apple knows... I just now got off the phone with apple tech support. Problem with server. They are working on it. Hoping to have resolved by tomorrow. Was told to call back if Voice to Text continues to not function by tomorrow.

I am really surprised how long Siri voice texting has been not working. Its not been a good day for me and Apple products. My iBook is completely dead. I spent hours trying to see if I could resurrect it with no luck. I am now typing this on my 11 year old Dell laptop.

I just hope they are doing something to upgrade Siri!

Try going to "Settings App"...Turn Seri OFF and then ON and that should clear the problem until Apple finds the root cause.

I tried that, didn't work. I can use Siri to do everything but dictate text. When I try to use it, I get the purple and pick flashing dots only.

I am writing this using the iPhone 4S is voice dictation feature. as I said before a little bit goes a long way keep pressing that button.

My Siri is working fine. At 10:00 am this morning my voice to text when down. It is now 10:00 pm, 12 hours later and it still is not up. Very hard for me, as I use it for hours a day posting tweets on twitter, as my eyesight is very bad and I cannot really type well. Well I see its working again. I did go into settings and turn it off then go out of settings, then back in and turn it back on. Now I can go to bed!

Are you writing about voice to text or Siri?
