iTunes 10.5.2 locking up immediately after execution

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the new 10.5.2 version that was just recently released? Ever since I loaded it iTunes locks up immediately with the waiting "hourglass" and stays this way continually requiring a hard exit to get out. I have tried several different things to no avail:

  • Reboot, both warm and cold
  • Uninstall and reinstall
  • Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling to an older version (10.2) but Apple sets it up where this is not possible due to an .itl file.

I have taken a couple separate data dumps in hopes of sending them to Apple but they have pretty much no way of contacting them directly with an attachment that I have found.

System specs:

  • O/S Windows Vista
  • AMD Athlon Processor 2650e, 1600 Mhz
  • 3 Gigs of Memory and plenty of hard drive space

Here is some of the information I pulled when the program begins to lock/loop:

  • Appears to reach roughly 77,000 K Working Sets that spike quickly and then stop around that number.... possibly locking during startup?
  • Once the application locks the iTunes process is using no CPU to extremely low amounts of CPU: <.01 percent.
  • Attached both detailed and short dumps

Any help with this problem, a workaround to get back to a previous version of iTunes and/or a way to get a dump file to Apple Support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Clayton

Hi, Clayton,

I'm having the same problem, but on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and ipod classic 160GB. More specifically, iTunes is hanging up during the "Verifying" step. In reading forums this appears to be a common problem when Apple updates the iTunes software. I haven't tried removing and reinstalling software yet; I'm going to wait for awhile to see if someone figures it out.

Looks like I tracked down the problem, it worked for me so I hope this works for everyone else experiencing problems. Go to your Task Manager and locate the program APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push)..... if you see this executing terminate the program and then startup iTunes and it should come up fine. You will see afterwards that APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push) starts back up but this is fine as long as iTunes has already started.

I tried playing both music and syncing up my iPhone with no problems. Note if you shutdown iTunes again you will have to terminate the process APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push) again. Haven't had time to see what in the world Apple Push is but this appears to have corrected the problem so that you can at least use iTunes and sync any device that needs to be synced.

Hope that helps everyone!

This thing is really works for me on Windows 7 32 bit.

+ Try to rename file "APSDaemon.exe" (c:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\) into "APSDaemon1.exe". Also before this you need to delete apsdaemon from Autorun (using CCleaner or directly in Registry) and to kill running apsdemon from Task Manager.

Now problem is solved, apsdaemon will not start anymore. You don't need to kill the task every time you close iTunes. 🙂

P.S. Be sure to rename item back when iTunes corrected version will be available.
