iTunes 10.5.2.11 doesn't recognize Outlook 2010

I have a PC running Windows 7 (64-bit) with iTunes 10.5.2.11 and it is not recognizing Outlook 2010 as an application for calendar, contacts & notes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple applications (iTunes, Bonjour, QuickTime, Mobile Device Support, Software Update, etc). When I attach my iPod Touch 3G, the "Info" tab in iTunes does not list Outlook as an available application to sync contacts or calendars. In the calendars section, it simply says "No supported calendar application can be found." Help!!!

I got a response from iolo Support earlier today, and it was the same generic response about excluding files... not registry settings. One would think that they would get a better understanding of the issue if multiple people complain about the same exact thing... and either repairing Office or undoing the registry tweaks fixes the problem.

I don't get these support folks... and I work for IT. Go figure...

OK Here is the response I received today, probably the same one the resto of you got but thought I would post it anyway. Haven't tried it myself yet but here it is, if anyone tries this before I get a chance to, let us know how it goes:

You can try excluding the files from being removed by the System Mechanic tools. This is one example of how to set exclusions:

1. Open System Mechanic by double-clicking on its desktop icon.

2. From the main navigation panel select Toolbox-> Individual Tools to display a list of tool categories.

3. From the category list select Clean Up System Clutter, locate the Junk Files Finder tool, then select the corresponding Start button.

4. Under Advanced, select the Custom Cleanup option.

5. Click Next.

6. On the Types of Junk to Find window, change the default settings as desired.

7. Click Next.

8. On the Locations to Search window, select the drives to search and specific folders to search as desired.

9. Click Next.

10. On the Exclusions window under the Excluded Folders section, click New.

11. On the New Folder Location dialog box, click Browse.

12. Select the folder you wish to exclude and click OK.

13. Select the Include Subfolders check box.

14. Click OK.

15. Click Next.

16. On the Safety Considerations window, select the desired options under the Additional Options section.

A. Ignore files that have been used within the last [ ] days

This option skips files that were accessed recently and provides a method of finding and removing files that have not been used in a specific time frame.

B. Ignore read-only and system files

Read-only or system file attributes usually designate important and necessary files that can be harmful to your system to remove.

C. Ignore files currently being used by an associated application

Removing a file currently used by another application may most likely cause unexpected and/or hazardous results. Although System Mechanic automatically prevents removing in-use files, if an item matches the configured search criteria, this option prevents the item from being displayed and/or removed.

17. Click Next to start the tool.

18. When the search is complete, the Inspect and Remove Junk Files window displays items to remove.

19. Inspect the groups to see if any application-related file patterns or folders you wish to keep are set for removal.

20. To exclude an item, right-click the item and select Exclude filename from future searches, or select Exclude folder from future searches.

21. By excluding these items in the Custom Cleanup mode of the Junk File Removal Tool, you will prevent all other System Mechanic tools (including the Quick Clean and Deep Clean modes) from removing the files, folders, and file patterns you wish to keep.

22. Remove any items as needed.

23. Click Exit when finished.

Follow these instructions on the other tools such as the Registry Tuner. Excluding the necessary items from this tool WILL NOT exclude these items from the Power Tools such as PC TotalCare, ActiveCare functions or the 'Repair All' function and it would be best that you run the repairs through the individual toolbox.

I have had this problem. Sometime in November or December last year, my calendar stopped synching with Outlook. iTunes could not recognize Outlook, and reinstall of iTunes and disabling Outlook add-ins had no effect. I ran the Office repair function from the Control Panel, and that worked. Even though iTunes could then see Outlook again, getting the calendars to sync properly proved to be a major headache. I also have System Mechanic. To test the theory that it is causing this issue, I ran System mechanic and did the suggested operations. Immediately, the sync problem returned. Repeat headache. I have contacdted Iolo labs, the publisher of System Mechanic, told them about this issue, and asked for a solution. If they offer one, I will post it here. If they can't offer one, it's good-bye SM, becasue I am completely convinced it is the culprit.

A final post from me to say I gave up and said, "Uncle!"

I, too, have tried the "undo" feature for the registry and the repair feature for Outlook. They work -- until you run System Mechanic again. I was very hopeful when iolo said they escalated my problem to the developer. However, what I got this a.m. -- after more than a week of waiting -- was essentially the same (vague) fix that involved excluding items form the registry optimizer. When I called to get clarification about which files/folders to exclude, the rep offered to send me yet another article. She sent me a list of register key names that aren't present on my PC. I replied to the email, which may or may not be read by a human, to let them know.

After 8-10 hours of trying to solve the problem, I've had enough. I called Dell and requested a refund.

Has anyone had experience with "cc cleaner"? - it's a free registry cleaner & declutter-er I've heard about. Other suggestions?

Fond farewell for this issue.

I run SM 10.7.6, too. I've also opened a ticket with Iolo about this issue. In the meantime, I have configured SM to hide registry problems permanently. This allows me to use the rest of the SM tools, which is better than nothing, but then again, the reason I got SM in the first place was it was the only registry fixer/optimizer that didn't totally fry my system. So, no, I will not renew my license for SM this year if they can't fix this problem. If you need help in making SM leave your registry alone, let me know and I can walk you through it.

I received a reply from Iolo regarding the ticket I opened on this issue. As with pjmfrombaton rouge, I was advised to install SMPro 10.7.7.2 I did so, and to my utter amazement, it worked. At least it has, so far, and that inclues one full reboot. After the reboot, I created an appointment on my Outlook calendar and synched. It appeared on my iPhone. I then deleted it from my iPhone, and synched again. It disappeared from my Outlook calendar. My only suggestion: do a complete uninstall of your old version of SMPro before installing 10.7.7.2. Be sure to note your activation key before you do the uninstall. Please try that and let me know if it worked. Here is where I downloaded the new SMPro version:

Thank you to all who have spent the time and shown me the way forward. On researching with commercial IT guys, they say that SM is rubbish, like all registery cleaners. If you are installing and uninstalling a lot of programs, use Revo Pro; and for defrag etc, use Windows accessories.

Once again, thanks to all who have lead the way. Have a great 2012!

Iolo support finally responded to my open ticket regarding our issues with iTunes and Outlook. First and foremost, a new version of System Mechanic was just released called 10.7.7.2 It does not specifically state what "critical problems" it addresses. However, it might be helpful to try the latest version.

I could not figure to cut/past the e-mail response. However, I will try to type it out.

With regards to the iTunes / Outlook problem, this is what they responded (in bold):

"You can try excluding the files from being removed by the System Mechanic tools.

- Open the System Mechanic.

- Go to Toolbox> Individual Tools > Repair Problems.

- Click Start under the Registry Tuner.

- Under Advanced, check custom optimization and repair.

- Click next and proceed to the Options tab.

- Then click Add button.

- Put check under Registry Key and add this Registry Keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Journal : Item Log File

-Then click on Exclude Selected Key.

- Press Ok.

- Repeat this process for the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Journal : Outlook Item Log File

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppPat hs\OUTLOOK.EXE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Assistant : AsstSourcePath

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Assistant : AsstPath

- Then click Next to finish the process.

Excluding the necessary items from this too WILL NOT exclude these items from the Power Tools such as PC TotalCare, ActiveCare functions or the Repair All function as these are designed to run default settings. It would be best that your run the repairs through the individual toolbox."

I was a bit reluctant to try the Registry Cleaner function of System Mechanic, but I gave it a try and it seems to work. I manually ran the Registry Problems found. I check iTunes, and my Outlook Calendar and Contact options were intact. A bit of an extreme work around. But, worked for the first time in a while.

I noticed some of the recent postings claim the latest version of System Mechanic (10.7.7.2) seems to resolve the problems originally stated. Can anyone confirm?

I appreciate the dicussion to this frustrating problem. I'm having the same problem as everyone else. My itunes will not recognize outlook 2010 to sync calendar and contacts. In the case of contacts is doesn't even give you a box to check. I've tried everything listed above with no results. So tonight I uninstalled both system mechanic and itunes then reinstalled itunes and it still doesn't work! ARGGG!! Itunes has been no help so i won't be purchasing an ipad untill this gets resolved.

If anyone has any other ideas It would be appreciated. I have a 3gs with 5.01 and itunes software ver 10.5.3 There was no problem until I upgraded itunes software in early Jan.
