macbook air not charging

My 2011 macbook air seems to go through stages of not charging.

With lid open, air charger doesn't charge (or light up), but my old macbook charger will charge fine.

With lid closed, the air charger seems to light up and charge fine. If you open while plugged in, still charges fine.

Seems very strange, but seems to point towards a charger problem rather than a macbook or battery problem. Seems intermitent. Once it starts charging, will do so even if opened.

Macbook charger will power and charge regardless.

This seems to happen after been running on battery power for some time, then charger plugged in again.

Anyone experienced similar issues?

Thanks

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

That's good advice, but many of us have had this problem on an ongoing basis - a real headache if you use your Air for business as I do. They replaced my power cord once, but now I am having the same problem. There seems to be a defect in the manufacturing and Apple should replace the power cord, warranty or not.

TomasM - thanks so much for this post. I had the same charging problem as everyone else on this board - after several trips to the Apple Store (who couldn't really help as my Air is way out of warranty) and many hours searching for a solution online, I finally found your suggestion. The middle two pins had got stuck inside the head of the magsafe connector and just needed a little poke with a safety pin - now everything's working well. Thanks again!

Mine too, Unplug charger from all connections, Power Cord from wall, Charger Cord from Charger MagConnecter from computer. Plugged all back in it worked. I use to have to do this with copier PCB boards at times. I was told a connecter gets Oxidized and just the action of Unplug and reconnect cleans it enough. It often works I must say...
