Address Book search not working with osx lion

Clearly Apple has problems with iCloud syncing with contacts across multiple platforms... Have had to do this multiple times. Really ***** to do this frequently, but there seems like no choice .

Thank you Gerardo Tamez! This worked for me.

Turning off iCloud contacts in system preferences (deleting contacts from Mac) worked. Search is working again.

WATCH OUT: when you have contacts stored on your Mac as well as in iCloud (Eg I have my very old contacts on my mac, not in icloud to prevent too many entries on my iphone) they WILL be merged, thus the contacts on your MAC will be uploaded to icloud!!! and will no longer be available on your MAC.

I have not tried to work around but it might be solvable with a backup possibly, althoug I'm not sure that a import DB backup will not overwrite all icloud data.

APPLE:

1. please fix this bug

2. do not assume all contacts on MAc need to be uploaded.

3. Please add subfolder possibilities in Address Book! This way I would have to move only 1 folder with multiple subfolders from icloud to harddisk.

It is great that there is a temporary bandaid fix, but I don't like that I have to do this every few weeks-- such a waste of time.

I placed a question re massive address book some minutes ago. I tried your procedure but no sign of icloud under system preferences so stalemate.

Hope somebody can help with 166k addresses!

Brilliant! It worked just fine. I had the same problem, but not since installing Lion but all of a sudden by the end of the year ... now everything is back to normal. Again - thanks a lot!

Gerardo, I want to try this because I too am having problems searching my contacts with spotlight. However, I am such a novice...how do I back up my address book? Can you tell me the steps for that?

Thank you Gerado Tamez! It worked. I did not delete contacts from the Mac (but I did make a backup). The process of un-checking contacts in iCloud preferences, not deleting the contacts from the Mac, then merging the contacts worked. Search has returned. Good job.
