Snow leopard

There is so much misinformation about iCloud and Mac OS other than Lion, I can't seem to sort it out.

If I have an iPhone 4s with IOS5, can I sync. my computers with Leopard, Snow Leopard with it in iCloud?

You can get iCloud mail to work on Snow Leopard, but the 'wizard' will assume that the @me.com address means you want to connect to MobileMe and try to force you into that.

The method detailed in this page will enable you to connect successfully:

Correct, manual setup will be required, and that is to be expected and prepared for.

Thanks

So I just talked with an Apple rep. on the phone. He said I cannot use icloud on Snow Leopard, even with an iPhone. Period.

So I now must get a new email provider and find all the places where I used my dotmac email address and change it to something else, because, according to him, I will not have access to my mac mail after the end of mobileme in June.

I am not a happy camper.

As I've already posted, you can access your iCloud email in Snow Leopard perfectly well - I'm doing it myself. I migrated using Snow Leopard and set up email just as I describe in my site:

- indeed I took the screengrabs as I went through the process. You don't need to lose your email address. Of course you can't sync calendars, contacts or bookmarks nor use PhotoStream.

Thanks, Roger. When the time comes, I will use this info -- but isn't it true that I have to give up MobileMe to use the cloud? I can't have both, right? So if I try to set up iCloud on Snow Leopard, I'll lose syncing my SL with my older machines, something I can still do with MobileMe.

When you migrate, your email and calendars will be removed from MobileMe and transferred to iCloud: your contacts will be removed from MobileMe but will not appear on iCloud (they will not be removed from your Mac). You should turn off all syncing in MobileMe before you migrate.

Your iDisk will continue to work as before. You will not be able to sync your contacts, bookmarks or calendars. Of course if you don't migrate it will all stop working anyway at the end of June when MobileMe is teminated.
