The solution worked for me too. But my question is does anybody know what causes this problem??? I literally just put my phone on the table for 10 seconds and when I picked it back up it was dead. The fix worked but I want to make sure this isn't a symptom of a larger problem.
Life saver! Thanks 🙂
thank you so much, this tip has helped me whilst travelling interstate
Thank you very much! This worked like a charm and saved me from having to go to Verizon or Apple Store. You really do need to press both buttons for 20 seconds - I impatiently did it for about 10 seconds and it didn't work. Also, you need to start charging it soon after the Apple logo appears.
it worked percetly for me too sir. but i'd like to know what had actually happened to my 4S?? (Mr. Finch)
iOS crashed. It happens. It happens to Windows, to Mac OS X, and to iOS. Not to mention Linux, Unix, Z/OS (mainframe) and every other operating system that has ever existed. You shouldn't think of the iPhone as a phone; it's a very powerful, pocket-sized computer that can make phone calls.
Thanks Lawrence, that did it for me too. I completely overlooked that is a computer and therefore is prone to crashing like any other.
I tried this with mine, and the "connect to iTunes" screen came up. But then it won't do anything.
When the battery is dead and I first plug it in, the battery sign comes on the screen. After a few minutes it will show the "connect to iTunes" screen. But then it just quits. It seems like once the battery charges a little, it stops working.
Leave it plugged in for an hour, ignoring the "connect to iTunes". Then follow this: Recovery Mode
Read and follow the instructions to the letter. Don't take any shortcuts.
If the battery still dies as soon as you disconnect it you need a new battery.
please about if the sleep (switch button) is broken and doesn't work? any way out? please help
Thank you this suggestion worked like a charm!
hey i have the same problem but my iPhone 4s won't turn on unless plugged into the wall... its not the power button or battery because my phone charges normally... it only stays on when in the wall not even my computer can turn it on..
please help
Well I sorta had the same problem it a began when my replacement came because my screen was broken then I took it out of the package and did the phone switching thing and then 2 minutes later it flickered and shut off even though it was %100! I tried the home and sleep button thing didn't work I put it on the charger didn't work I did the button thing on the charger didnt work i gave it a couple days didn't work. and the exact same thing happened to all 3 of my replacment phones that I got in the mail. So I didn't have a phone for 4 months!! I can't survive middle school without one! So finally I got my grandmothers old iphone 4 and it works fine. Does anyone hace a clue what happened to the replacements? Cause it happened before I ever set any of them up so I never even got to use them. Is it some sorta virus or something or does apple even know about this and is it serious?
Why didn't you take the replacement back to an Apple store?
Thank you Lawrence Finch.
Worked like a charm and my 4S is up and running again. 🙂
