iTunes Match - Completing Album Artwork?

iTunes can be particular about the size and DPI of the artwork. I have found that 300x300 or 600x600 at 72 DPI works best. Smaller will also work, but then it doesn't look at good on my Apple TV. Larger can sometimes cause problems for viewing on other iOS devices. And iOS devices really don't like any DPI more than 72.

As Michael said 300 x 300 is one factor, but so is dpi. you should check to see if the artwork that does not display is 72 dpi. if it is anything else, you should find a way to change it to 72 dpi.

Also, while larger actual file sizes may display, smaller file sizes will load more quickly. if, for instance, you had a 5Mb file and were able to get it to a 60k file, you might find overall system response to be better, particularly on iOs devices on 3g

If you have been able to resolve your artwork issues on the main computer, as well as iOS devices, I would simply give any additional device added to iTunes match time to receive the artwork from Apple's servers. Users (including me) have seen that artwork simply does not automatically appear along with the tracks initially. It may be that the art is provided in the background, but also on an as-needed basis. So I'd recommend simply leaving iTunes on the new computer in album grid view.

Jumped only a few days ago into itunes match and was faced with a similar problem. Artwork reverting back to old. Took me two days but I think I cracked it.

It seems that itunes match goes entirely by your metadata file and artwork is part of that. For those that are not using itunes match yet they should consider converting thei'r song's tags to the latest version and deleting elements of those tags which are not absolutely necessary with the help of a tag editor before they sign up. It will save them the trouble the rest of us have.

Here's what I did to solve the problem:

1. For matched songs:

a. Convert song's ID tag to ID3v2.4

b. Use the kid3 tagg editor (am sure any other editor would do as well) and remove all tags except the basic ones like song, album, artitst etc. Remove even the apple originating tags.

c. Export a jpg image of the artwork from the original file in itunes and embed it in the tagg editor. You can also use any other image of your choice. I prefer going for the 600x600 image sizes.

d. Save the changes and close tagg editor

e. Drag the file to the desktop

f. Update itunes match so the tag changes will be reflected in your cloud saved file.

g. Delete the song from itunes and icloud

h. Update itunes match. The song should not be in your library now

i. Import the saved copy of the song from your desktop to itunes

j. Update itunes match

i. Right click song, select add to icloud

j. Update itunes match.

2. For uploaded songs:

Before you begin working on your tags consider converting those songs to an AAC file format.

I don't know if this is an easy fix or not but it seemed to fix for me. I was having difficulty seeing album artwork on my iPhone after I already updated it on iTunes. Once I updated iTunes Match, the album artwork would revert back to the original artwork or no artwork at all. This is what I did to fix that problem, a lot of which is probably unnecessary but whatever:

1. Disable iTunes Match from your mobile device under Settings > Music > iTunes Match
2. Power "Off" your mobile device
3. Open iTunes
4. Turn "Off" iTunes Match on your computer
5. Update your album artwork manually (I suggest finding the album artwork on Google Images or thru Amazon.com).
6. Update any other information necessary (i.e. album name, artist, composer, etc.).
7. Close iTunes entirely
8. Re-Open iTunes
9. Turn "On" iTunes Match on your computer
10. Allow access for your computer to activate iTunes Match
11. Update iTunes Match
12. Power "On" your mobile device
13. Enable iTunes Match from your mobile device under Settings > Music > iTunes Match
14. Your iTunes library should maintain any changes you made and it will be reflected both on iTunes and on your mobile device

Hello, I discovered that this works perfectly....

1) Identify songs or albums with missing artwork.

2) If iTunes has the correct artwork, get info on the song with the correct artwork. If not download correct artwork from iTunes or other source.

3) Click on the artwork image attached to the song and drag it to the desktop.

4) Click add, select the artwork file on the desktop, and click ok.

4a) If you need to add the artwork to an album get info on the album and add the artwork to all the songs at once.

5) Continue for all your required songs... If none other then you are done.

Sometimes I have noticed the updated artwork updates within a few seconds on my iPhone 5 without any further attention. If the artwork does not update within a few minutes do the following to help it out.

1) Update iTunes Match.

2) Close out and reopen the music app on your iOS devise.

JGCode: I tried that same process you just described and the artwork reverted back to the original problem after updating iTunes Match.

If anyone else tries this, let me know if it works for you as well!

After three months I must admit that there is no one way one can permanently change artwork with iTunes Match. What I have tried that works at one time or another are the following:

A. Delete artwork from song, change album name, add the desired artwork and update iTunes Match.

B. Remove artwork from song, delete from iTunes library, update iTunes Match and re-import song.

C. I deleted my entire artwork folder from iTunes folder and enabled automatic artwork download. I personally prefer the standard iTunes artwork. Better image quality at most times.

All these things though will be in vain if your song has its artwork embedded in the file. If you do not manage to somehow get rid off the embedded artwork; sometimes dragging a copy to the desktop straight from the iTunes app gets rid of the artwork, or via a tag editor you're doomed to failure. You can easily check if your file has embedded artwork by right clicking and selecting “show in finder". Hope this helps

On a first try itunes Match got 95 per cent of my album cover art correctly.

Why? the vast majority of my stuff is not available in the itunes store and iTunes rarely can find the correct matching covers. My secret is Google and amazon and a specialty web site.

For the remaining 5 per cent, the suggestion here of creating playlist album art is missing a lowed me to pick up a couple. But flicking through my iphone in horizontal position allowed me to spot the rest.

I fixed the rest (all three or four of them) in iTunes 11.x by

1.)Selecting all tracks in album

2.)Right clicked get info and checked to see if uploaded artwork or was it now embedded.

3.)Right clicked Deleted downloaded artwork.

Was tempted to use find artwork but realized would then recheck every single piece of music in the library and might override covers. Did not use find artwork

4a.)If I couldn't find the artwork in my artwork folder,iitunes embedded it , I deleted it, and I have no original artwork) I went searching on line in Amazon, Google, or a specialty web site for my type of music and Uploaded covers

4b.)If could find the artwork c folder, Simply uploaded it it again

5.)Not sure what happened next but clicked on tiunes match and it seemed to ahve started from sratch.Dont reember turning it off. It went quite fast and much faster than first time

6.)Every other time I did above I simply did ituness update and all was well.

Limitations:

1.)I only had itunes match turned on in itunes and my iphone

2.)I did not have itunes active on any other computer

3.)I did not yet have iTunes active on my ipad

4.)Very fast wifi connection

5.)iphone was plugged into computer with itunes

My guess of the vast majority of problems with artwork disappearing again or wrong artwork reappearing is synching more than two devices any technology is quite complicated. I used to do two devices with outlook. The issue is any change to any copy makes that copy the newest copy and depending no how granular the synching is(version and date) vs (individual data fields),)the slightest change can bring back a copy that doesnt have all your changes. Network secruity with multiple devices is prone ot the same problem where on device notupdated fast enough causes lock out. If you want to see someone who did it right go to splash id before they used the icloud. They tagged every single item. My guess is apple is not doing that??
