Update meta data glitch?

I'm trying to update some albums that were tagged as compilations by properly updating the album artist. After I make the tag change, then press "update itunes match" it resets everything i've just done.

Anyone know of a fix for this?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Yeah, mine still does it, but not nearly as bad as it used to. The main things I've done so far are disconnect any other devices that wanted to sync; including my wifes computer and my iPhone.

The main thing I would do is disconnect Match, re-launch iTunes with a new db, connect and delete any/all songs on the server, then delete that db. Load your old one back up make all your edits, and make sure everything is the way you want it, then re-enable iTunes match.

I know it *****, but until its resolved it really seems to be one of the only solutions that works.

Ok so I resolved this same problem two ways. I turned off ALL iTunes match except for one computer- turn off itunes on all other computers, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV. Then, on one computer, delete all your songs, 999 songs at a time. (it wont work if you delete more than 1000 songs.) after you delete all your songs, your itunes match list will be empty. Then turn off iTunes match on this computer. Then go to your other computer that still has your music but with itunes turned off. Rectify the metadata. Once you are satisfied, turn on iTunes match, and it will upload the corrected music to icloud and send the new playlist to your other computer and devices.

I also found that if you correct metadata on one computer in itunes and you DON'T click on "Update iTunes match," the metadata will eventually (like the next day) be changed on all of your other devices.

I hope this helps!

I'm having this same problem with iTunes 10.7, and I sent Feedback about it. I was able to restore most of my song metadata using Time Machine, but I lost a couple hours and I had to terminate iTunes Match on my Mac.

These methods posted above to fix the problem are fine for more advanced users, but for noobs like me it's more risk and hassle than the service is worth (which is a shame).

Seems like Apple could at least put in some simple progress alerts that say things like "iTunes Match has detected conflicting metadata on your devices, which one has the data you want to keep?" (ditto for the artwork issue in other discussion threads).

If I get brave enough to try the solutions above (and many thanks to all the contributors who posted them!) I will check back here first, and then backup, and then report results here…

Hi. I have the same problem: metadata I change in iTunes reverts to what it was when dowloaded, and does it immediately as I close the Get Info pane. It happens only with downloads from the iTunes Store, so I've taken to downloading music from Amazon (where it's generally cheaper). However, it's just happened again with an audiobook I've downloaded. The problem can't be with iTunes Match or the cloud, as some have assumed and suggested, because I have both of them de-activated.

I discovered the same problem today with a file downloaded from iTunes Store (and I'm *not* using iTunes Match). I regularly change metadata, which is usually awful for classical music, and I've never had a problem before.

What seems to work is to change the file metadata using another program; I've been using Subler. Then in iTunes, select "File/Get Info." This will read the new metadata off the file.

Just to be safe, I've been using Subler to delete the contentID and artistID numbers, figuring that's what iTunes is reading to make the metadata switch back to the original. I'll be interested to see what the rest of you see happen with your libraries.

No, if that's a solution there's no problem to begin with.😝

What we're talking about is info entered by users getting overwritten by iTunes/Match, potentially wiping out hours or days of work. Your "solution" works, but only if iTunes Match is off.

I test for a fix every time Apple releases a major update, because I do a full bootable system backup then (worst case is I would have to restore my iTunes info by restoring my whole hard drive). Still no solution with Mavericks…

I figure Apple cares not at all, most likely because this is a significant problem for only a very small percentage of iTunes users who do a lot info edits on their iTunes databases. Most people have no reason not to accept the data from Apple's Match database.

Still. Annoying.
