Mail shows empty message body

I have Mail setup for both my home account (gmail/IMAP) and my work account (Exchange). Sometimes my work Inbox will list a new mail message that says under it "This message has no content") and, sure enough, when I click on it, it'll show the header (from/subject/etc) but no body.

The problem is: everybody else in my group *does* have a body to their email. None of the other users are Mac Mail users - most of them use Microsoft Outlook (one uses Thunderbird with IMAP).

Is this some known bug in Mail? Is it just a poor implementation of whatever proprietary protocol MS Exchange uses? In other words, if I switched over to using IMAP, will this problem go away?

[Ancilarily, I also sometimes don't see attachments that everybody else in the group sees :-(

Any info/help is much appreciated.

P.S. I'm on a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.2 - all the latest updates.

I researched this for days and tried a ton of solutions and none worked out. Turns out the fix was pretty simple for me. Detailed here:

I know it refers to Blackberry, but it worked fine for fixing up the "no content" problem on 3 Mac Mail installations with Exchange 2007, and only took about 10 minutes and one reboot of the Exchange server. Obviously, if you don't have IT support or access to your Exchange server, you are out of luck.

FWIW to anyone - the details of my problem were related to having Microsoft Outlook running in a virtual machine accessing the same exchange account that I was accessing with mail.app I noticed that for some emails the bodies would not display and I could not reply but only if the email was received while Outlook was running simultaneously. I examined two emails sent from the same person (one without Outlook running / one with) and determined the difference was an AVG anti-virus scan that was running as an Outlook plugin. I disabled this plugin and this fixed my problem. AVG was adding at least some addtional headers as well as a text signature. Apparently mail.app didn't like this.

Found a good workaround.

1. Select message.

2. hit 'delete'

3. hit 'command-z'

When the message comes back, you can see the body.

I found this works for me, as 'most' messages arrive with no body. This has been going on for many months now, and is very infuriating. I 'use' to be able to close mail, then reopen it, where the body was then there fine, but, that doesn't seem to be the case every time now. The above does seem to work...deleting then 'Command-z'...but when you have hundreds of e-mails, it is very time consuming, and really....one shouldn't have to go through all that to read their e-mail!
