iBooks Author change background of template

How do you change the background color of a template in iBooks Author?

I have gone into the layouts option.

Clicked on the background.

Opened the Inspector.

Clicked on the Metrics Box

And it says

File Info

"Green_paper_background_a.jpg"

But there doesn't seem to be an option to change it.

Is it possible to get a different background color. I'd like a shade of blue.

Help.

(But before I go I have to say, its a pretty impressive program!)

At the point where you have the background selected, go up to the Arrange menu, and select Unlock. You can then toss out the background, and drag another one into place.

I'm not sure though, about what size to use. It seems to be wanting 1024 by 748, but I thought the iPad was 768. Also, I an curious about how this will be affected with future iPads with higher resolution screens.

Hi G,

Sorry for the delay in response -- I didn't have those templates so finally had time to download and look. Opening the Carmera template, I'm seeing that the elements are defaulting to Unlocked.

When you click on an element, do you see little squares around it, in each corner and in the middle of each side? As well, you should see that the Lock button is enabled, which is why the Unlocked button is disabled. Is this what you are seeing?

Best,

Carolyn

Hi Dave.

The background image is 1024 x 748, because when reading an iBook, theres always a 20 pixel deep line across the top – the one that shows the wireless status carrier, (if any) time, and battery status.

The FULL ipad screen was 1024 x 768.

Now. IBA measurements actually work in points, which are 72 per inch. As screen res on the old iPads was 72dpi, then the pixels were the same measurement as points. Now, the newer iPads are 2048 x 1536, but iBA STILL works in points.

For best display on the new iPads, although your background images would still measure the same anout of pixels, the resolution of the image should be double - 144dpi. Altertively make the image 72dpi, but double the pixel size.

So with all images either same size and double the resolution, or double the size and keep the res at 72dpi. Either way, you have to resize the item once brought into iBA.

Hope this helps clear things up a bit.
