My iPhone 4 is completely dead. I've tried everything I can think of but it won't turn on. It had been working ok until I shut it down at night and in the morning I couldn't get it to turn back on. Is there a way I can get it back on or is it completely shot? Thanks.
Try the reset again. If still a problem, Google for DFU mode and try that.
I tried to put it in DFU mode but no alert message showed up on iTunes and the phone remains black
Then it sounds as if your iPhone is truly dead. If under warranty, take it in to Apple for a warranty replacement. If not, you can still take it in to Apple for an out-of-warranty replacement or find a repair shop in your area.
Took it to Apple Store and they fixed it. The connection to the battery came loose and that's why it wouldn't power up. Works fine now! Thanks for all your help.

about how long did it take to fix in-store?
4s just did the exact same and after olding the home and sleep button for about a minute it asked to get plug to itunes for recovery ... styll plugged so far to itunes will be back in 4 minutes with the result

I also got this same problem like u. I have an iphone 4s, after updating ios 7 it was good for about 3 days. Then after 3 days suddenly my phone automatically switched off and white apple logo was blinking ,i was unable to switch it on. Besides the phone was not taking charge from the socket. And also was not connecting to itunes. Then i pressed the home and switch button together for about 7 seconds and turned it completely off. And now after 2 days this afternoon i tried to switch on the phone. And it was just a miracle that my phone automatically started to work. And now um enjoying my phone then ever.
I think u should try it like me, hope that will work.
