FCPX Won't List Two External Hard Drives In Event Library! Why?

FCPX won't list two of my 6 external hard drives in the Event Library, including my all-important video hard drive (a 2TB drive I use for my videos). There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of my drives. They work in Finder and in every app I have, and Disk Utility says that they are perfectly fine. These two drives show up as "Cameras" in FCPX for some reason. All the other drives show up fine in FCPX, even the drive I use for my Time Machine Backups. The two missiung drives are formatted exactly the same as the drive that do show up (Mac Journalled) -- there is literally no difference between the drives, so there shouldn't be a problem for FCPX but there is.

Does anyone know why two drives don't appear in the Event Viewer (or appear as "Cameras") while 4 other drives appear perfectly well???

I can't recommend FCPX if I can't access my video hard drive!

Any help woould be greatly appreciated.

I've also found if you have a folder named DCIM at the root of the drive this will also cause the disk not to show up.

i have an iMac with 3 FW drives in chain. 2 of them are available as Event library locations; 1 is not. however, the 3rd shows up as a camera archive. because that's the drive i copy the AVCHD file from my card to (i use a Sony a65 & shoot AVCHD). it took some hinting from this thread to realize i don't have a hardware problem but a local workflow issue!

it appears that anything that makes a drive look like a camera will not be available to store events. now that i understand that, all is well.

mr I am having the same problem! and can't understand what solved your issue, I have no extention in my hard drive called video... ahhhhhhhh! 😠 after final cut x I am start to hate Apple...

Look at the root of the hard drive. There may be some folders there with names like "AVCHD", "Private", "Video", "DCIM" or others that make FCP X treat it like a camera drive.

Post a screenshot of that root folder of the drive.

Just to point out…you've added your issue to a thread that is a year and a half old and has a variety of descriptions of systems and problems.

It would be great if you could start out by providing detailed information about your system configuration and your question.

I am having a similar issue and can't see my NAS drive in the event library. I believe is is due to a folder in the root directory called _NAS_Picture. I am not able to edit it's name however. I have a thecus n5550 b5 bay NAS connected on my network configured to raid 5.
