Error in iTunes Match - "This item cannot be downloaded"

Has anyone else had this issue? I've searched on here but can't see any mention of it.

I have recently uploaded several albums from my pc into iTunes Match and some of the songs were 'matched' and some 'uploaded'. However, when I try to download these songs to my iPhone, only the matched ones download. The uploaded ones give the following error...

This item cannot be downloaded

The item you have requested is not available for download

The status for these songs in itunes on my pc says Uploaded (no errors) and they are all in Apple Lossless format. I am wondering if the Apple servers need to convert them to 256kps format before they are available for download? But these songs were uploaded a couple of days ago and still won't download. I uploaded some other Lossless songs last week and they were available for download on my iphone almost immediately.

Any help most appreciated!

Thanks.

I have found the solution to most of these problems it seems.

I was having this very same issue with a growing number of songs in my iTunes Match, all of which, for me, were actually uploaded to the iTunes Match Cloud, not Matched with their database. After speaking with a Senior Advisor at Apple about this issue we broke down and figured out it was likely data corruption on the match storage servers.

FAIR WARNING before I explain the solution: You will need the original song files or CD to re-add and match to correct this issue.

The solution was to, in iTunes, select the song(s) in question, Song->Delete from Library. (You may need to do this twice). It will ask if you want to delete it from iCloud, you will need to say yes. This will delete it from all linked devices as well, so you will need to re-add them from the original files, then re-add them to your playlists appropriately.

Once you've re-added the song files back to iTunes, in File->Library->Update iCloud Music Library will re-add them to your iTunes Match, either by Matching or Uploading again.

seems to be fixed here as well. tracks that gave the message just 24 hours ago seem to be fixed.

however...

some of the tracks that were matched are still listed as 'matched' but have turned back into the original mp3's!

I know for a fact it used to download the matched aac file because i have a separate mac that I have had them all downloaded to and they were matched aac file. i even checked the file extension and played them outside of itunes to make sure it wasn't a corrupt file and sure enough it was the aac. (as a test i deleted a couple of matched aac tracks and when redownloaded it said mpeg audio file instead!)

the strangest thing is these were files that matched as soon as i signed up to itunes match. so at no point were the mp3's ever uploaded to the itunes servers. this is very, very bizarre behaviour and very frustrating as i have no idea what's being downloaded through my iphone, aac or mpeg??

anyone else noticed this?

P.S should also add that deleting this 'matched' mpeg from the cloud and adding either the original mp3 OR the matched aac file results in it being uploaded not matched like it used to.

That is very strange. Considering you never uploaded those tracks as mp3s, it almost seems as though Match is "crowd sourcing" its database for *any* copy of the song - perhaps even an mp3 that was uploaded by another user..

I haven't yet had time to check whether this is happening with my library, because I'm away from my computer and there's no way to know what format my iPhone or iPad is downloading, but the formerly "problem" files are indeed coming down the pipe again, as others have reported.

Meanwhile, I'm facing another issue.. Last week I wiped clean my iTunes Match database from my secondary computer, on which I don't keep local music files, and started the matching process from scratch on my main computer in the hope of fixing the problem. Not only did that not fix the "item cannot be downloaded" issue, but ALL my purchased tracks are now marked as matched, and presumably count against my limit when they shouldn't. Over the years, I've bought nearly 3,000 tracks from iTunes! They are still showing in my "purchased" playlist and show as purchased files when I right-click and "get info", but according to the status field, not a single one is showing as purchased in Match Status in my music list in iTunes.

They *really* need to build in a proper reset mechanism.

i did consider the possibility of it using any copy it can find but this bothers me greatly as i don't want someone else's bad rip taking its place in the middle of my 256 AAC files. i would prefer it to upload my entire album of mp3's rather than match it to someone else's mp3. at least i can vouch for the quality and consistency of my rips. the fact that deleting the track and attempting another match results in an upload instead makes me think this isn't the case.

also from Apple's point of view surely they would find themselves on some shaky ground in terms of the agreements signed with the labels to roll this service out??

with regards to your second problem, can you not delete all the tracks from the match cloud and then go in through the itunes store 'purchased' tab and download them all from there? that will stop them matching won't it??

Yeah, I guess you're right about the mp3 issue. For one thing, you'd likely notice varying bitrates in the downloaded versions if the server was simply throwing any old copy of the file to you. It's just very odd indeed that files you never uploaded as mp3s are coming down to you that way. I can't think of a reasonable explanation for that.

Thanks very much for your suggestion re the purchased music. I was considering doing what you suggest but deleting the files would also remove them from my carefully curated playlists, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of recreating them. I'm only about halfway to the 25,000 limit anyway so I'm just hoping for a "reset iTunes Match" option in the next version of iTunes, which I think (hope!) would solve quite a few issues.

I'm here because I'm having issues with some tracks showing as "matched" in iTunes whereas others are "uploaded".

Not unusual in itself except that many of these songs are from the same album! Surely if the album is in iTunes match then all tracks should show as "matched".

I'm still looking for a solution to this conundrum but, in the meantime I have come across another anomoly.

I have just had iTunes inform me that my computer is not authorised to play a particular track which, again, is not unusual except that the track was from imported form a CD I own!!!

After deleting the track and re-importing it, it now plays fine (I just wonder how many other tracks in my 19K song library will behave the same way).

Bottom line is Apple still have a bit of work to do on iTunes Match... I'm just wondering whether to renew my subscription when the time comes around (still a while off yet so hopefully they will have fixed many of the issues).

Hello,

I had a this problem on a new iPad and after doing some deduction, I worked out that this is due to an incompatibility with one of my third-party apps.

I was miffed, because this is a brand new iPad, but it was resolved easily:

* I did a full reset (Erase All Contents & Settings) after first backing-up just in case.

* I then started the iPad as a new iPad and ignored back-ups and chose not to set-up iCloud

* I logged into iTunes using my Apple ID

* Fired-up iTunes, went to 'Purchased

* Clicked on 'All Songs" and "Not on this iPad"

* Clicked "Download All".

Worked like a dream and all of my music downloaded successfully.

I am now putting all of my old applications back, but I have a feeling that Google Chrome is what caused the problem… I wonder how many of you have Chrome on your iPads?

Hope that this helps! 🙂

Despite most of these posts being at least one or more months old, I've only just gotten the "iTunes store cannot download this application at this time" error.

I have tried multiple suggested solutions including:

- Restarting iDevice
- Restoring factory settings

- Changing the date and time to a year ahead

- ensuring internet connection is stable

And many more solutions provided by others on threads such as this one and similar threads.

None of those solutions have managed to solve the issue, however there is one solution I am able to offer

You will need to connect your iDevice to a computer that had iTunes installed.
Once the device is connected, you may wish to back up your device (just in case), and check the applications tab. I found that the applications i was having issues with had the option to install. Click "Install" next to the application, and it should say "Will Install". On the bottom left hand corner, where is says "Apply", click it.
Wait patiently for your device to sync with iTunes and the applications will re-install without further dram

I hope this has helped anyone who is still in need of assistance regarding this matter.

ME TOO.

Just encountered this for the first time ever. A song I own on CD, which I ripped years ago and which was uploaded to the cloud when I subscribed to iTunes Match, is now unavailable.

Very unhappy indeed. One of the problems iTunes Match is meant to solve is having CDs all over the place, which is why mine are all now packed away in my cellar. Having to go and unpack them to find that one CD is really not what I call convenient or fun.

Ok... I was having issues with iTunes Match since I purchased a new iPad Air.

Songs wouldn't download showing just a message saying "Unable to download song" and giving me just two buttons:

- 'Ok or Done' or 'Retry'.

Pushing 'Retry' wasn't helping cuz the same message window keeps coming again and again and again.

Resetting all (Match & iPad) woulnd't help also.

Syncing through iTunes with USB would just transfer my library partially (who knows why and I'm still looking for a solution for this issue).

Uploading my 12,259 songs to icloud again was a total waste of time.

So, something was 'stuck' in the process of iTunes Match and the download process.

SOLUTION:

1. Went to iTunes Store on my iPad with Match settings on.

2. Went to Donwloads and saw a queue of the songs files

3. Detected a song file still in 'processing' and deleted it

4. Also deleted unecesarily the first row of files waiting for download (just in case)

5. The queue started the download process again.

6. Ces't fini! iTunes Match is back online again!

RESOLUTION:

Apple still dropping the ball on this one since they still can't get something basic (managing queue lists) done right!

Hope this helps lots of folks on here.
