Can't send aol mail from my iphone but can receive it. Help!

My iphone 4S was working this morning and I could send emails from my aol account, but all of a sudden, then next email I tried to send wouldn't send and I got an error message that said: Cannot Send Mail. The user name or password for "SMTP:xxxx@aol.com@smtp.aol.com" is incorrect. How can I fix this? I've tried turning it on airplane mode and off, deleting the aol account and adding it back on, doing a hard reset on the phone, but nothing has worked. Can someone help me? I"m receiving emails just fine, just no sending.

I'm afraid AOL is not very good at communicating about problems or their resolutions, which is why I gave up using AOL about 10 years ago. They have thousands of servers, and the problem is only occurring on some of them, which is probably why not everyone has a problem, and why fixes work for some and not for others. But it's worth trying to reset the SMTP server settings, as others have suggested. It MAY work.

tiger-

i noticed this worked for some. didn't work for me, unless i did something wrong. any other suggestions? any idea why it wouldn't work for me? should i turn my "primary server" back "on" since your solution didn't work for me? yours seems to be the same type of setting as the primary, but i'm no IT person.

thanks for the recommendation, though.

tiger's suggestion did not work on my sprint iphone 4S...HOWEVER, a couple of minutes after I turned off the servers my emails went out...at first i thought it's because I'm at work on Wi-fi but i just shut off the wifi and emails went out fine...either AOL fixed the problem or shutting off the server's works...hope this helps...

The reason this worked is that AT&T has its own SMTP server that is used when you are on the cellular data network and other servers don't respond. It's there because some ISPs don't allow their servers to be accessed over a cellular network. The server name is cwmx.com, and it does not require (or allow) a user ID or password. So what you found is a workaround for the problem, not a solution to the problem.
