I am quite deaf, 77 and wear two hearing aids. When I watch anything, I take out the hearing aids and put in Bose earbuds but still strain to catch a lot of the words. I thought that was my problem with the Pro until I searched for something to increase the volume on this machine and took the 7 day free trial with Boom. The first episode of Game of Thrones season 4 went straight over my head without Boom. The second episode with Boom? Absolutely effing magic! Now I am going to try Hear. Thanks for this thread.
I just uninstalled Boom. Music skips, stops, or crackles. It looks like it works for some people. If you still want to try it, there is a free 7 day trial at the developers website. http://www.globaldelight.com/boom/ I hope you have better results than I did!
A nice solution is to download Soundflower which works as a virtual audio cable. I use it with AULab, which I believe comes preinstalled on most (all?) macs. Set your sound output to Soundflower in system preferences and then open up AULab and set the input to Soundflower and the output to the built in output. You can now raise the fader in AULab for more volume or use various effects and equalisers including various free AU downloads off the net.
I had the same problem. The sound suddenly went faint. I tried all the above recommendations which improved the volume only a little. I eventually discovered that I had accidentally moved the slider (in iTunes). This slider is immediately to the right of the fast forward symbol on the top of the window and looks as though it has something to do with the speed, but it turns out that it is the volume and seems to be separate from the volume control in the finder or the preferences. Hope your problem is as simply solved.
The MacBook pro doesn't haven't only one speaker, it has two separate stereo speakers with an internal subwoofer. (Left, and right speakers with a subwoofer right in the center for better bass). Y'all are all cray.
Jesus Christ. Go and research the difference between the desktop computer called "Mac Pro" (which is not only the section of the forums where this thread is located, but is also in the title of this thread) and the laptop computer called "Macbook Pro" and pop back when you're done. Ta.

What a bunch of these unhelpful people fail to understand is that it's not about increasing the max volume of the speakers (which can really go quite loud) but increasing the signal of the audio which can be way too low when playing some online videos on sites like netflix.
Apps like boom will fix that.
You seem to be talking about a laptop of some kind.
This thread is located in the "Desktop" section. The Mac Pro is a desktop computer. The original question asked about the Mac Pro.
Which computer are you talking about? The Mac Pro, or something else?
Matt
Well if you want to Listen to music on Itunes a bit more louder. There is an Equalizer built in to your iTunes. Im not good at explaining **** so bare with me. Just open your itunes and click on windows at the very very top. Then click on Equalizer and another box will open then you can adjust sound. The sound is not so great but you can adjust it to your liking. Anyway i hope this helps. Cheers.

Hi, the two software seem like they would work, but I'm not going to pay $17. With Boom2, it's only for OS X Yosemite not OS X Macintosh.
I do have a MacBook Pro. I do no know what year; I got it about 3 years ago. It's only updated to OS X Macintosh. I am using headphones, and the volume is not very loud. If y'all have a software the works for Macintosh, that would be amazing!
Thank you!
Hi All, I have tried everything suggested to increase the volume on my new (to me) macbook pro mid 2012. Zip. My
Iphone was louder.
It was particularly bad this morning, what ever. So I hunted again for suggestions and tips.
I found something that WORKED. YEAH! Just wanted to share with you all and hope it works for you.
I did take me a minute to figure out the slightly different labels or their order, but stick with it. Here is the link:

MatSher's tips on august 26 2010 were the one that did it for me. He's right, I had to turn the volume down on my computer
after I followed his directions!!
FINALLY. Thanks again for all the help that I have gotten over the years from you all. Hope this is a good payback, its my
first post
I use a great little app called Boom. There's a free version and a paid with more options. It boosts the built speakers significantly and it has a cool little mixing board with various options for music styles, bass, voice, radio, etc..

> And this is a Mac Pro forum yet we still have the Mac Book Pro users chiming in.
That´s Life!
I have some problem with my turntable. May i join the discussion?

Greetings from germany
No, don´t be worry, i am simply joking.
If it helps, I tried free Bongiovi to do it. Downloaded from cnet - http://download.cnet.com/Bongiovi-DPS/3000-2169_4-75629300.html. Once installed and updated, goto Bongiovi DPS Preferences. Under SETTINGS tab, set "Output" - Built in speakers, "HEADPHONES" - Apple ear buds.
The Boom you mention is "Boom 2" and is for OS X 10.10 up, or is one call just Boom? My Macbook Pro is OS X 10.9.5 I watch on my Macbook TV, Movie, Sport on streaming and often the voice is lower and difficult understand
