Unable to uninstall Apple mobile device support

Hello,


I'm having big troubles with my Itunes, and more exactly with apple mobile device support.

I tried to uninstall every programmes of itunes (itunes, quick-time, apple mobile, bonjour...) to reinstall it.

I can't uninstall apple mobile device support. It won't disappear from the "programmes and applications". And the option "repair" doesn't work also. And every time i try to reinstall itunes it failed because of apple mobile device installation.


When i'm on my desk, the service apple mobile device is stopped, and when i try to start it, the computer can't reach access, and said something like "error 1053" or "can't access to sthe service". So i think that Apple mobile device support is the key of the problem, but i don't know how to fix it.


I'm a bit desperate because i didn't found anywhere some solutions, so if someone has, i will be very very grateful.

The use of the Repair button may be very useful! I hadn't seen the suggestion, had some difficulties, and managed as described below.


I tried to follow the instructions to remove all the associated specified Apple components (In order, iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)), but I could not complete removal of Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS): it would still show in Windows Programs window Uninstall or Change. An Apple forum thread mentioned Revo Uninstaller, but it did not even show the AMDS. Finally, in Windows Task Manager, Service Tab, I selected/highlit the service AMD, but could not Stop the Service in TaskMgr, so I clicked Services button at bottom. In the new Services window, selected Apple Mobile Device, clicked Stop the Service at left. Then close Services window, return to Ctrl Panel’s Remove Programs window, select AMDS, try Uninstall. Worked for me. Resuming at Bonjour, complete the removals.


Then, following step 2 to “Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled,” I was unable to remove “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\”, when OS claimed some components were in use. In neither Task Manager nor Revo Uninstaller was I able to find any relevant services (Apple, Apple network, ipod, etc.) to stop. I restarted Windows in Safe Mode, tried to remove the folder, but still got an error message referring to components in use. So I moved to CMD mode, as Start .. Run .. CMD, Enter, “cd \”, “cd progra~1” , “cd common~1”, “rd /s apple”, “exit”. This attack seemed to bring success, and I confirmed same in Windows Exploder, then resumed verifying removal of other folders as directed. iTunes reinstall then worked fine.

There is a god and it is pabramley. Only after bullying the AMDS repeatedly to repair then uninstall (Windows 7, 64-bit) and to follow another singularly helpful suggestion from soypisto75 in an earlier post to plug

in one's mobile device (iPhone) prior to finishing iTunes installation to allow the device drivers to reinstall was order restored (for now!) in my dysfunctional cyberfamily.

I have an extra tip.

If you right-click and use the "repair"-option in teh bottom of the menu-list and it don't work anyway, try this:


1. Right-click on AMDS in the uninstall list and choose "change"* instead of "repair" (should be second from above instead of third /last in the menu-list).

* (hope this is the right word in the english version since i run swedish, W7-64-bit)


2. After a while a pop-up window will appear. Then choose "repair" (=top option). This will reinstall the AMDS.


3. Uninstall AMDS like you tried before. Hopefully it will disappear from the program list.


This worked for me.

Thanks pabramley -- best advice! Finally able to clean my computer. But not keen to re-install iTune... will sleep on it for a few weeks!!! .. and if I do eventually re-install, I won't be keen to update. I believe a file called 'QTMovieWin.dll' caused all the upset -- but of course didn't find that out until most iTune related files removed... believing that an update installation was interrupted... so 4 hours later and after purchasing a cleaning prog. which wasn't too good in the end (RegCure)...your solution finally fixed the problem.
