10.0.3 DISASTEROUS

System -

Fastest MCP one can buy (with extra 2.5gz processor model 8gb ram 1.7core) Lacie THUNDERBOLT drives. 10.7.3 OS.

10.0.2 ran "relatively" fine. NOTHING changed except upgrading to 10.0.3

Re-renders everything everytime I restart the program - Even though it rendered to 100% on last shutdown.

And when it is rendering - it does it SLOWER than the last version 10.0.2!

Playback stutters. Beach ball is more present than 10.0.2 !

Titling of previous projects is messed up - baslines and tracking are changed!

To test - I reinstalled the previous version 10.0.2 and reloaded in those previous projects. All runs smoothly.

Reinstalled the 10.0.3 again - EVERYTHING THE SAME - and same issues!

WHO CARES ABOUT ALL THE NEW "FEATURES" WHEN IT DESTROYS MONTHS OF PREVIOUS WORK, AND EVERYTHING IS EVEN SLOWER THAN BEFORE??? Its so frustrating to read reviews by magazines etc who do not lay down feature length, complex movies and only talk about all the "great new features" and how performance is "improved" simply because they read that it SHOULD be improved!

Well it isnt - its WORSE! Doesnt Apple actually test things before releasing it ? Where has the trust gone???

And I have the most pimped out (portable) system one can get. Pity on those with less endowed systems!

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND ANGRY!

Hi "montster" how are you doing. I was reading some of your threads and it sounds like your Apple/Mac experience has not been so awesome. I am sorry to hear this. Can you give me an update on all that I see you have been discussing in general? I would contact you privately to avoid the response in this thread; however: 1) i don't know how to contact someone privately in here; and, 2) the response in here will be helpful to others since it is thread related.

1) how have these particualar fcp x issues been as of the present . . that is, are they resolved or are they still issues?

2) how would you say the macbook pro 2.5 GHz is power and speed wise over the 2.4 GHz which you might have considered?

3) have the 10.0.3 issues been resolved?

in particular i too am buying a new MBP in the next day and concerned if i should buy the 2.5 just to get the 10-15% boost in power/speed while adding about 25% to the cashe and how well it works with fcp x (which i am considering buying immediately after . . although i will be keeping fcs3 for DVD SP that i must have.

thanks for your help in advance and if u are able to contact me privately also for more detailed questions i have about the MBP 2.5 id love to be able to do that dialog.

for any others reading this if you kow how to contact me and let me know 2.4 vs 2.5 or cautions/warnings id love to hear it. :-)

Hello PO 🙂

The final conclusion is thus:

1002 was/is AMAZING snappy with the MBP system I have and you are contemplating to invest in. Go for the 2.5 version, not so much for the extra hertz but for the extra cache - THAT will make a noticable difference. If you have the cash for the 2.4, the extra cash for an even more pleasing experience is WELL WORTH IT. In making movies, a LITTLE extra speed is a LOT of extra speed since we're dealing with many frames as opposed to one still photo etc. For my photography work, I doubt I would notice or care about the difference, other than price. 😉

SOME 1003 issues <<cannot>> be resolved with many of the suggestions put forth (standard ones, usually given by some as a fix for everything even when its been mentioned as unrelated) due to coding errors inherent in the conversion of the two versions. SOME 1003/1002 issues ARE solved by some of the "standard" suggestions to be fair, but these are issues solved by standard problems in ALL the versions. These programs ie Digital Rebellion etc (have them all) identify and/or remove archiving errors automatically as opposed to manually (one can do the same things by hand if the knowledge and time are there). They do not fix bugs ie. coding errors. There is a difference.

Having said all that.... there really are no "issues" at all if one is sticking to one version or the other. Text attributes for example, are sometimes lost in both versions for some reason - no matter converting from one to another or not. But if one uses only 02 or 03, my own experience is that all functions (more or less lol) as expected and SUPER FAST (with this system). Well, then again can anything ever be fast enough? In my book I guess fast is always relative. Perhaps 10 years from now, we'll cut through 8k files like butter haha and today's fast will be like running on sand. 😉

I always run in proxy mode to achieve max performance, and "hide" (use the utility Event Manager or do it manually by moving projects to "projects not in use " folder) projects not needed. When I am making a final mixdown I then render in high res for full screen. These proxy mode is no visually different as long ast they are displayed at the reduced size. Anyway with this going on, I am very satisfied with the speed in either 02 or 03. Just keep em separate per project. Hopefully the next APPLE update will fix the problems caused by this conversion.

I hate to sound like another standard, copy and paste answer kind of guy, but.....

"hope this helps"

😉

New card now in. Just as I suspected: no change whatsoever. Waiting on new RAM from Crucial (16G was the same price as 24G from OWC). Not hopefull and very pi$$ed.

Brother Andy!

You got the new card and no change at all????

I only have 8gb ram and no way you should have to add more than that to make FCPX scream. Something else seems to be throwing a cog in the gears. The graphic card must be an improvement - I cant see how you can upgrade the card to the top available and notice NO change whatsoever?

P.S Be sure to take advantage of the Thunderbolt Drive technology - it makes a DRAMATIC difference!

Ian,

Your comment is referring to my post.

What kind of sense it that???

He asks me for info about the system P-O is considering. I tell him it screams.

You write...er... what you wrote and I can only sit back in amazement.

In other words I recite to myself..."here we go again". Try to be polite... after all its just another one of "those" redundant comments ....😢

Penn-Ohio, you WILL get WAY better performance with the system you describe. Period.

Nuff said.

Hey Andy I just read your post, and it seems no luck with the fans. I bought the rams in Owc also but my fans were picking up revs when I install the 8 gig. Now I just recently put smc fan control and that solved the issues try uninstalling it and do a smc reset for the iMac and do it several times just connecting the power cord. Resetting the smc is disconnecting all cables from the iMac and wait by holding the power button for 10 sec and then wait five more seconds with out holding the power button. Then just connect the power cord. You could also do this with the smc fan control, also apple just updated for 2010 iMac line up the firmware smc EFI your machine might need and update on that if it qualify.

"montster" geez . . well how about that? so great to hear your experience stated with the 2.5 Hz machine. that's sure enought what i did. i got the 2.5 Hz one tricked out with 8gb ram and the 750 drive in the antiglare screen. then i added to this lil puppy (or mean junk yard dog) that 27" thunderbolt display and a magic mous, apple care, keyboard, parrellels for that one M$ program i still have to run unfortunately, and of course fcp x when the MBP gets here. a lil under 4400 for the kit. next week i'll put my old MBP (one im using now that is 2 yrs old) on eBay and the biggie loaded to the hilt MacPro also which will just about generate enough money to pay for it all. but since im leasing it all, i think i'll get another convertible instead :-)

i think i'll be pretty much ok with the rig and will run external 2 - 4 Gb WD Raid packages via fw800 and evenutally get one of those 6 or 8 Gb raid tunderbolt rigs from promise tech OR that new go flex esata dock thing that has a tunderbolt plug from seagate. all this gear mounts into the back of the tunderbolt display and when i plug the display into the new MBP it all goes live. im pretty excited about this arrangement that will definitely make my life simpler.

im gonna watch ur posts here to see how things go while keeping working on the documentaries and movies now that ive moved all my broadcast, event, and commercial video business over to my partner :-)

AWESOME PO!!!!

Junk yard DAWWWWWWWG to be sure!

We both have the exact same setup now - even monitor (minus the TB drives though).

Great stuff!

BUT be wary of 10.0.3 IT IS >>>>>>NOT<<<<<<< a step UP from 10.0.2 regardless of some that insist on everything Apple does being justified somehow or another. FORGET about multi cam for now. Just go with '02 and with this system you will be VERY pleased. IF you go with '03 you might think its "not bad" but you just wont know how BAD it is compared to using '02 with YOUR setup. A huge difference indeed.

Thats the latest from la la land buddy! 😉
