after Security update 2012-001 cannot save any Office 2004 file

I installed the Office 2012-001 Security Update on a MacBook Pro running Macos 10.6.8

After that, I opened an attached Excel file from an email (received with Entourage), I performed some formula changes and wanted to save the document with a different name. I saw some changes to the screen as if the File saving Window would appear, but instead the whole program crashed. I could not perform any further changes to the file, basically all of the menus were blank, including the Quit menu. I had to Force quit the program. I thought it was only Excel, but Word also behaves the same. I am able to open any Office file with the corresponding Pages-Numbers program and save the file in the appropriate Office format, but I cannot perform any changes using the Office programs. I am writing this question here on the Apple Support Communities because I am almost sure that this behavior happened after I installed the Security Update 2012-001. After reading some of the latest support questions, I performed a Permissions repair on the StartUp disk but nothing changed.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

I'm sorry to say that your information is wrong. As of 3:15 PM EST the 2012-001 security update is still available for download from the Apple support page.

What is wrong with them? By now someone with authority at Apple must know about this disaster.

Abandoning Rosetta with Lion was a major blow to many loyal Mac enthusiasts. (I've been a Mac user since 1985). But this is inexcusable. Steve J. must be turning over is his grave.

Thanks to LeonGambetta and JannW, my problem with Office 2004 is now fixed!

I just located that "ImageIO.frameworks" folder as JannW described and then found an earlier (correct) version from last month in Time Machine and hit "Restore". TM swapped out the new corrupted folder for the older version, I then used Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, restarted my MacBook Pro, and voila, everything seems to work just fine again! Total time involved, less than half an hour. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

BTW, how in the world did you guys discover that this folder was the culprit?? It's buried way deep in the System Library where I would never dare to venture without some serious hand-holding guidance!

Similar issues here... all on Rosetta. Word, Excel, Photoshop CS2 + others NO LONGER WORK and just crash after I downloaded this security update. I do not have time to go back and reinstall and/or restore applications. These are programs I have used without incident every day... until I downloaded Apple's latest update.

Greetings;

There is a third party fix (see attached link) that worked for me in restoring Photoshop (v.8) to normal functionality. As have been pointed out in other discussions, this is a third party software that's not approved by Apple. I don't use the older versions of Word, etc. so I can't speak to them, but on both my MacBook Pro (1.6.8) and MacPro (10.6.8) Photoshop, Appleworks and FileMaker Pro (v.6) now work normally.

When I had posted it, the Security Update 2012-001 was not showing up on 2 systems I checked on, it may now be showing up again now.

You can guarantee that Steve Jobs approved or made the decision to not include Rosetta with Lion.

What is happenign now is a bug, nothing more. (Has happened before, will happen again, although may not affect as many users)

So.....my 10.6.8 Rosetta link was broken by this bug? So this is actually a preview of Lion seeing that no longer has Rosetta in it I hear? So much for Lion. Im not going anywhere in that direction. I need Rosetta. Where are the "Get Rosetta back into Lion petitions"? Perhaps Wikipedia could go offline a day for this? lol

"although may not affect as many users" hey an Apple Security update breaks all Apps that reply on Rosetta (you know the Mac community have billions of those; we love macs because we dont need to follow Microsofts Upgrade Forced arm bending..:) and you think this wont affect many users? Personally, I think this could be by far worse than antennaegate...

What would we do without these Boards? Yay!!! This solution worked for me, as well. I simply restored a pre-Software Update version of the Image io.framework folder and repaired permissions. I can now print from Quicken again!! After the absolute debacle of the endo-of-the-year Airport Firmware updates and the most recent Airport Utility update, Apple should be examining the engineers who are developing these updates. Something MAJOR is being overlooked in the development of some updates and it is unconscionable that Apple is releasing such defective products!!!

after Security update 2012-001 cannot save any Office 2004 file
