Security Update 2012-001 crashing on PPC file dialogs

After installing the update AppleWorks and Eudora crash any time I try to access any kind of file dialog: Save, Save As, Open, etc. Do any of you have the same problem or a fix perhaps?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Intel

The ramifications of this "Security Update" are ridiculous and outrageous! Apple has a responsiblity for causing this situation and they should be held accountable for providing a fix for it, period. The 10.6.8 update is a problem for far too many people for this to be left to individuals to correct. Come on Apple, you are better than this!?

Backup files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.

If you have TM, or a option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from.

If not, c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility to >Repair Disk and Permissions, (do not format or erase!!) and simply re--install 10.6 from the disk. Note: Does not touch your files and most programs, but backup your files regardless.

Note: If Disk Repair gives a error that is not repaired, then you have to consider erasing the drive (with Zeros) and try reinstalling 10.6 fresh or replacing the drive.

Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8, it should not include the security update at this time (second pass it might show) because it was just released and they might need to pull it. (they need to pull it)

When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that installed kext files into OS X, you'll know, they won't work.

If you get gray screen, hold the shift key and update your installed software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

Screw you Apple for screwing my business with your bad updates, bad products and ****** software!

All what's coming out of your business since 3 years is pure garbage crap. A security update with such a stupid bug (created on purpose of having us go out and buy a copy of Lion? FORGET IT!!!!)

Tired of it. After 18 years, I'm out. OUT!!!! I hope your greedy company and even greedier CEO will get run over by other companies and send you back in Chapter 11 for good.

I can't believe I would have written such things one day...

Works like a charm Chriz555. Thanks. I copied the appropriate folder from my clone HD. Had an issue once I deleted the affected file from my boot drive because it would let me put the new folder in, said it needed 'authenticaing' but would not finish. Booted into my Clone HD and then put the good folder in my normal boot drive and it just asked for my password. Rebooted into my normal HD and all is well.

Quicken prints and exports without any issue and MailWatch works normally.

Thanks again and thank god for my clone HD.

I found a solution on this discussion (in french but if you want I can traslate that for you) with the help of Lionel (check on the discussion) !

My MS Office 2004 is now working again and Rosetta is fully OK.

If you want a traduction of the solution, ask me !

You just need a "new" framework (offered by Lionel on this discussion) and reboot your engine (and maybe use Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature).

My MS Office 2004 works perfectly, thanks to the Mac users (and not Appel 😠)

You know what guys : despite all the complaints and all the trouble users are having with this "security update" its still avaliable ...

Yes, over 48 HOURS LATER APPLE DIDN'T PULL THE UPDATE, IT'S STILL AVAILABLE ! 😠

To me, that clearly shows that it's NOT A mistake nor an unvolontary bug ! 😠

Apple released THIS **** ON PURPOSE, and they continue screwing-up more people, trying to forrce them to 10.7 Lion...

What a bunch of SOBs'!

Feb 3, 2012 1:58 PM in response to coolapic

there is a major bug with that current security update in Lion, too. Watch the discussions at the Lion v10.7 discussions. I guess, Apple really made some BIG mistakes that spoil both Snow Leopard and Lion Sytems, only in a different way and differnt things crashing. So a change from snow leopard to lion would not really make you or anybody happy after that securtity update...

@ MSMunich

Wrong !

More than 48 hours after its initial release, Apple is still seeding the "so called" security update for 10.6.8, knowing full well that IT WILL SCREW ALL ROSETTA USERS !

Since the first big trouble for Rosetta users was known, Apple could/should have announced that 10.6.8 / Rosetta users SHOULD NOT INSTALL this "security" release, or only install it IF they do no longer need Rosetta...

Q : Hey, what's best way to go if you'd like "force" customers to the next system ?

A : Quietly kill one of the "old" system's features, if possible the one that make this "old" system so important to them (Rosetta).

Even better, disguise the "kill" in a "so called" security update (the kind of update that everyone does without thinking too much)...

Once screwed without Rosetta, the customers may think they may as well upgrade to 10.7.x (without Rosetta) and buy all new software...

Only BIG problem for Apple : WE PAID FOR a system (10.6.x Snow Leopard) that was advertized as supporting PPC apps (with Rosetta).

I want my Rosetta back, NOW (and without having to dig deep in my system or TM backups).

This story stinks like H.E.L.L !

This has been a nightmare.

First I've spent the last week trying to get some software bundle for my C++ class to work in Parallels so I can do my homework (finally it worked in VMWare Fusion), then I open Quicken 2007 (need I say more?) yesterday and try to import my downloaded transactions. Crash. Export. Crash. Crash. Crash. Crash. Crash. I have a laundry list of things I've tried to make it work, because I've been doing Apple for almost 30 years. I know (almost) all the tricks.

Now I'm in tears. I have a website to be working on. I've lost a whole week on homework software. The client is antsy. I don't have time for this. I have to pay bills. I really don't have time for this. Research, reasearch, reasearch. I don't have TIME for this!!!!! I hadn't done the security update on my MBP yet. I moved my Quicken file over there. Success. Except I don't like to keep financial info on my laptop, for when I travel.

I'm hoping against hope this update of the update works. Because I don't have time for this.

Downloading 1.1 now. Fingers crossed.
