I am running 10.10 and have had no luck removing, hiding or editing. I have tried:

-creating a new calendar and not displaying it

it won't let me move, no error message, just after I click the new calendar I brilliantly called "hidden" it doesn't move or change color

-deleting contact card for invitee

doesn't change the notify pop up

-I used to be able to remove invitee

now when I do that I don't get the "update" button at the bottom of the window, nothing happens

In trying these Calendar has crashed/closed many times.

these are old birthday entries of clients that I imported from Outlook years ago, I now use a cloud based site for client management and want these gone. WTH???

By no means is this a fix for everyone, but it was a fix for me. I've been having the exact same issues that the community has described many times over, no need to go over it again. What's unique about my situation (and hopefully for some others out there), is that my Apple Calendar is a blend of several other calendars, including google calendar, iCloud, and some local calendars. It turned out that the three event that I couldn't delete (without sending notification) was associated with my google calendar and not iCloud. I took a look at those events by way of google's webapp calendar interface, and sure enough, I was able to delete the events without sending any notification, via their webapp. Finally I then refreshed the calendars (command-R in Apple Calendar) and the events finally disappeared without any notifications. Hope this helps someone else.

I am hoping I found at least a basic solution to the problem. I, too, have many calendar invites that are added to my shared calendar and would prefer to remove them without the sender being notified. It appears if you delete the event then notification is sent to them. To give myself at least some relief from seeing the event and not wanting to see it, I simply clicked on the event in my calender and "right-clicked" my mouse and selected "cut". I am not sure if it sent any sort of notification to the sender, but at least the event is removed from MY calendar and I don't have to look at it anymore. Has anyone tried this?

I deleted my whole calendar so you can only imagine the emails that got sent. Terribly embarrassing. Now I'm terrified to touch the calendar. Tried to 'cut' but that also leads to the message warning you that all invitees would be notified. Its too bad you can't prevent the invitees from being imported in the first place. So question: If I try to import an updated version of my calender into iCal, will it delete and send messages to invitees for meetings that are not in the update but are on the iCal calendar?

This worked for me, as I too have several different calendars I'm subscribed too. I'm not sure why this happened because I remember accepting the event way back when. After going to my Google calendar, it still appeared that I hadn't accepted or declined so I just deleted it from there. After refreshing Calendar on OS X, the notification disappeared.

I went ahead and recreated the event since it was originally for business purposes in order to reference it in the future if needed.

Thanks!

There is an apparent discrepancy in Calendar events, with some people reporting that "Delete and Don't Notify" is an option and others do not. I believe the difference depends on whether the Calendar event is stored locally on your machine, or whether it is stored remotely, e.g. on an Exchange server. In the latter case, I believe, iCal is unable to delete the event without notifying the sender.

The answer for me was quite simple.

Go to the search bar on the top right hand corner

Enter the subject of the meeting

Search results will show the meetings matching the search

Select the one you want to delete

The calendar will jump to that meeting however the meeting will be greyed out as you have not yet accepted it

Click on the meeting

Hit Delete/Backspace

You will then be asked if you want to delete without responding or delete and respond

Simply select without responding

VOILA done....

This works for me. Doesn't respond to the event & doesn't remove the invite if you want to keep it for record, just clears the notification.

1) Close your Apple iCal.

2) Open your Terminal or any shell application

3) Go to the directory "$HOME/Library/Calendars"

4) Open the db using "sqlite3 Calendar\ Cache"

5) To remove all the pending notifications, use "delete from ZMESSAGE;"

6) to quit, type ".quit"

7) Reopen Calendar
