Security Update Feb 2 2012 Kills save option in Word 04

I downloaded the security update today for snow leopard, and now I can't save my MS Word documents. When I click the save button, nothing happens. Has this happened to anyone else?

Backup files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.

If you have TM, or a option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from.

If not, c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility to >Repair Disk and Permissions, (do not format or erase!!) and simply re--install 10.6 (doesn't touch files or most programs, but backup files off the machine regardless)

Note: If Disk Repair gives a error that is not repaired, then you have to consider erasing the drive (with Zeros) and try reinstalling 10.6 fresh or replacing the drive.

Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8, it should not include the security update at this time (second pass it might show) because it was just released and they might need to pull it. (they need to pull it)

When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that installed kext files into OS X, you'll know, they won't work.

If you get gray screen, hold the shift key and update your installed software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

Most likely because you "Manually" downloaded the update and also probably downloaded it AFTER apple posted Version 1.1 on there download site so this is why you did not get hit.. The other people who let "Auto Update" download the update before apple posted version 1.1 were the ones who had the nightmares like I did.

Not so, different computer. My Macbook Pro got the original update and was the one that never showed the "good" one later with manual runs of Software Update. My Mac Pro somehow managed to never see the "bad" update. Happily, after getting clued in here about the "new" (but same-named) update, I was able to download the fixed update and it installed without fuss on the MBP.

I still think that a company with a financial surplus like Apples' has little excuse for such a messy process. They can easily afford to be better, especially since they want to show the Windows world just how much nicer it is over here. I certainly wouldn't switch back! It's just a bit sad to see Apple not trying as hard as they should.

I agree... Apple really showed poor example of saving many individuals like me a **** of a nightmare and many hours and days of fustration. And all they had to do was mention the newer update versus the old one and how it was a fix for many issues and problems for those who did not realize what happen to their computers. I mean seriously what does it take to merely write a couple of sentences in the description of the securities update page to mention it and save so many such grief and hassles? especially since it was Apples fault? To me that shows a lack of good plain common sense...
