Q: iTunes Error Message: iTunes Store is Temporarily Unavailable

I've tried everything, deauthorize, etc, it's showing I have 9 downloads available, but when I try to download, I keep getting this error message, that goes for purchasing, etc.

Is iTunes Store Temporarily Unavailable?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Wow thank you so much for the solution! This has been bugging me for the last few days, and I tried a whole bunch of things but nothing worked. I'm not sure if it was the cache or removing the "&" but I think it was the latter. Who would have known that would be the problem! Once again, thank you Digital Girl.

Agree, does not work for me either. I do believe it is an itunes problem. Something Apple will have to fix.

I'm having this problem as well. Unfortunately your suggestion hasn't worked for me. Apple Support has been pretty useless on this problem.

Hi! This isn't working...you are putting the clear cache command in the dialog box? I see no indication it is clearing.

I have tried on my Mac running 10.5.8 and another using Snow Lepoard.  Any suggestions?

Hi mswinger, I'll do my best to try and help, go to the terminal and put lookupd -flushcache if that doesn't work, you can try sudo dscacheutil -flushcache while logged out of iTunes.

Is there an "ampersand" in your account details: name: address, etc? Or is there a "period"?  If so, you could try removing those, click update, then go to your billing detaisl and see if there is anything that needs to be updated.

Clearing the DNS Cache might help with speed and reset any error messages you are getting with any downloads in waiting.

I hope you'll able to get it working.

    Digital Girl:

I have no idea how what you reccomended works but it did.  Thank-you for helping out.  I have posted your reply here in a discussion that I started on the same problem.

Any idea on why what you reccomended works and why would problems have started now after months/years of the same account info and no problem before this week?

    Thanks again,

    Rob.

Hi Robert, it was a lot of trial and error, I just did some research online, tried a few tips/steps, I thought the clearing the DNS made sense with my slow downloads, and I had a problem last year with have the "-" (dash) sign in the phone number section of the account and it stalled my account, a few months later I had the "#" sign in the address and that caused problems connecting.

What I think that could have happened is Apple updated their prerequisites for our we list our account information. For example, when I enter the phone number, update, the account takes out dash. It could be that they listed or updated  those prerequisites and that's why I couldn't connect. I was just going through everything trying to isolate "x" and finally those seemed to work, updating the account, taking out any symbols in the address, and clearing the DNS cache.

I hope others can get theirs working as well, I know how frustrating it is, it totally messed up our "Friday Movie Night" lol Smooth Sailing so far = )

    All the best,

I had the same issue and have been emailing back and forth with Apple Support to no avail - actually to be honest the proposed solution to date was to refund my money on an App and everything would be fine -- wrong!

I removed the "ampersand" from my billing information and everything worked!

    Thanks for the solution!!!
