Inbox keeps reloading for some users

I have a few iPhone users whose inbox keeps reloading. They can see their mail, then it disappears and starts loading the mail again. Anyone familiar with this?

We are running exchange 2010, but most users mailboxes are still on 2003.

Bumping it... just a little bit.

Has anyone received a definitive answer from Apple to this issue?

I have 4 devices (out of 23) where this is a recent issue, maybe since 6.1.3 but users may have taken their time reporting it.

I had this problem a while ago myself but simply restored to the defaults and archived a few emails (should have took notes, I know... the basics).

I've tried all the suggested solutions, but nothing has worked so far.

The users are going bonkers and I don’t blame them - they want their BB back!

Exchange 2003, iPhone 4S 16GB, iOS 6.1.3; the devices are 14 months old.

I have the same issue. I am using activesync to connecto to google apps for business. at least 2x / week my emails disappear and reload. it's so frustrating because i have to wait 30 minutes (depending on signal) for my 6,000 emails (one month) to reload.

I'm desperate for someone to figure this out. I've tried everything.

Is any of you using a VPN or an App like Onavo Extend ?

I solved my problem by reseting the Network Settings. But it started again when I reactivated Onavo. I uninstalled it, reset the network settings and everything is ack to normal.

The strange thing is Onavo is not a problem on my iPhone.....only on the iPad.....

I have an ipad with this issue and I went to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network settings and it seemed to cure the problem. Make sure you know all your emial accounts user ids and passwords before you do the reset.

I did not try turning the ipad off and then waiting a few minutes and turning ti back on, but you may want to try that first.

Hi all,

You know what? The reloading issue on all my iOS devices have suddenly gone. I had the issue literally every day for the last 2 months since I installed the exchange email, but I haven't had the issue since 3 days ago. I will keep monitoring and will post an update.

However, I still haven't figured out what the cause was and more importantly how it was fixed....... The only thing I can think of (although I did this a week ago so not exactly on the day or a day before that when I started seeing no issue) is that I reset the devices and reinstalled the exchange email. Not sure if the resetting was the actual solution but I noticed that the email notification was also turned off during the reset process. I used to have this turned on, so everytime you receive an email, it sends you a notification on your home screen. If you go to the settings - notifications - mail, you can turn on/off the email notification. Again this is just my observation but the reloading issue is not happening anymore!!! So, if you are having the reloading issue, try resetting your iOS device and turn off the email notification and see if this will fix the issue.

If I can think of any other changes that might have fixed the issue, I will post it.

Well, after my last comment, the reloading issue started again..... But two days ago, our IT team rebooted the server and since then, it has been working fine. Another person who had the same issue seems to be having no issue since the server reboot.... Not sure if anyone is trying to find the fix and reading the threads but thought I should share what I have found...

I read the info from Apple on link you posted above. Helps make sense of what I am experiencing. It has been periodic recurring issue on my iPhone5 Verizon 64Gb and iPad2 3G. It appears to start happening when two or three of the following things align: when I have allowed my inbox and sync folders to reach around 10,000 items (by not moving messages to offline pst folders on my computer) AND when I am switching between 3G, LTE and wifi connectivity - especially slow public wifi like airport concourse AND I get impatient waiting for a large email with attachment to open on my device. The biggest trigger seems to be number of sync items, but once it starts happening I always have to delete the exchange account and reload it after I clean out my sync folders (inbox, sent, deleted items).

I wish there was an intermediate duration between "no limit" and 30 days of items. I love the email search function on the phone / iPad - much less clunky and more useful than in Outlook itself, and I am constantly searching for three month old emails...

As @KAZ_NZ mentioned I believe this relates to the following apple kb article support.apple.com/kb/TS4511.

Unfortunately the mitigation steps have not helped and we still require a solution.

The mailbox in question is 10gb, and contains about 10 years of emails, but the user does not want to split or archive this.

He has 3 ios devices on him at all times, sometimes the problem occurs on one of them, sometimes multiple, but each time it does occur it takes hours and hours to get them all back.

If this really is as unresolvable as it seems I would at least like to know if we can alter the way the emails are reloaded onto the device, at the moment they come in oldest to newest, but I would prefer the reverse.

Also is there not just a way of turning off what appears to be a security feature:

indication that something's wrong with the server and that the validity of data it previously cached is suspect.

I updated to iOS7 on both my phone and iPad yesterday. I have been having this problem on both and hoped the new OS would fix it. It did not. Both devices loaded 300+ old message, which I had to delete. I swear I have deleted some of these five times.

This has been reported for months. Where is Apple on this? I am due for a phone upgrade in December, and the competition is looking better and better.

All,

Go to settings - General - Usage - Storage. Check for available storage. Make sure you have enough storage. Mine was less than 50 MB, deleted few apps, photos. Once it was above 100 MB, Mails were back up. And the issue of reloading/refreshing emails did not reoccur.

If the mailbox size is huge, you may need to free up more space. Give it a try,and let me know if that resolves the issue.

I recently "upgraded" to an iPhone 5S. I still have my iPhone 5. They are both running iOS 8.4. My new iPhone 5S has reloaded my Exchange inbox several times in the past 2 days, while my old iPhone 5 has not. Even when it is not reloading, the 5S is MUCH slower to load a new message than the 5 is. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Exchange on the new phone, eliminating Notifications, eliminating calendar synch. The new phone has tons of memory (that was part of the rationale for the "upgrade"). I need push notification for unlimited messages, and my old iPhone 5 has no problem with this. Gmail works fine on both phones. Might this be a hardware issue? Anything else I could try?
