iOS5 on iPod Touch 2nd Gen

Will it ever happen, or is my iPod Touch 2nd Gen now just a useless hunk of junk that won't work with modern apps, which all seem to need iOS5?

iPod touch, iOS 4.2, I WANT iOS 5

I disagree Deggie Apple are big enough and have enough money to hold a few versions of apps. Its not that many.

It's not like they need infinate numbers of copies - only enough for each time they make a product functionally obsolete. And your statement doesnt really hold water when you think that companies like evernote and dropbox to name but 2 keep several historical copies of documents (much larger than apps) free of charge- or at least within their charging tiers. As I said I have 6 ithingies and when I was an apple fanboi for all of 3 - 5 months I bought hundred of apps. I paid my dues to apple. Bu hey its not the 1st time I've been disgruntled with them. I just didnt realise I would get that way again in less than 5 minutes of picking up an apple product again!

btw I have been told by an app dev that apple only allow them 1 version or an app so it IS apple controlling what is available. - previous poster makes a better case on this.

Listen mate.... I am a tech consumer in a big way. I want newest gadgets and I'll happily pay for them. If I wanted an iphone 5 i'd not think twice about buying it. The point is I would want my iphone5 along with my previous medel not in place of it. I dont like being taken for a ride and apple are doing just that. They know there is an issue here for lots of people. They could solve it with little cost to themselves but they wont. They want stuff obsolete quickly so folk will have to buy more. Thing is good companies would entice with new models whilst allowing old models support at less functionality. Apple are just dropping a previous version and leaving users high and dry. They are not a very nice company in my book. I dont lose any sleep when I hear of others taking market share.

I know this is reviving my old thread and it will probably be locked... However, I just wanted to add that while it looks like we won't by any means be getting iOS 5, or an iMessage addition to a an "iOS 4.2.4" or something (which, by the way... Would be nice to iMessage)

Apple has listened and allows the "last compatible version" to download!!!

That means that any app that was originally for that version can still be downloaded if the developer allows it! Facebook, Twitter and my other apps can be re-downloaded, and when I give the iPod to a friend when I no longer need it, they can then download apps.

No, it might not be the newest version but yes: it will work and get the job done as a way to introduce someone to an app device! (friends, cousins, grandparents, etc)

Hey man,

I completely agree with you. too many people blindly follow the technology and never second-guess the motivation of the companies providing it–they're here to help us...yeah right. that said, Apple makes a very good quality product as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah. Just like it's the government's fault you don't have a job so they have to pay you. I got a news flash for ya: Unless we're talking about a non-profit charity, ALL business is about selling a prouct or service and making money. Period, end of story. The fact is, people are like lemmings.

FWIW, with a few exceptions like the Lisa personal computer, Apple has always produced quality products. However, historically their pricing has always been pretty steep.

Clifton you are preaching the Gospel brother!! I switched to Apple many years ago for bussiness/personal reasons FOR ME and my use of their products. I have never regretted the decison - not one day.

However not being well versed in "Apps" i would like to ask you a question please. Do you know of any internet radio App i can download to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen? I have several other Apple devices (later models) that do in fact have radio apps. (including iTunes Radio) But i want to (and will continue to) use my Touch 2nd Gen. frequently. Having a radio app that i could use on my 2nd Gen Touch while on a WiFi network would be great. Thank you for your help. larryfromaugusta
